I dont know if any of you are familiar with jackpots they have in the poker rooms, but If you have a certain hand that gets beaten, you win a jackpot. I won $3,800, and my buddy that beat me got $1,800. Everyone that was sitting at the table got $315. Not a whole lot of money, but I am pretty stoked. Time for bed. WOO WOOOOO!!!!!

It's called 'The Bad Beat'. It's essentially a relative $ payout after a showdown where the losing player has a hand which is equal to or above a preset hand (set by the House), yet was still beaten. Winning player takes the pot and the house pays both players a share of the bad beat.

Example:
<4 cards on the board: 9 10 9 K >
Player1: Holding 9 9 (Holding 4 of a kind, 9's)
Player2: Holding K K (Holding 3 of a kind, Kings)
<5 cards on the board: 9 10 9 K K>
Player1: Holding 9 9 (Still has 4 of a kind, 9's)
Player2: Holding K K (Now holding 4 of a kind, Kings)

So in this case if the Bad Beat is defined as a 4 nine's or better then both Players are paid. If the Bad Beat was 4 Jacks, then there would be no payout becasue Player1's hand is not good enough. Poker makes my head hurt...

I went to Morongo out by Palm Springs. Not all casinos make you use both cards in your pocket, but this one does. I got the high end payout, or the "bad beat". I was dealt pocket kings and raised before the flop. When my buddy called I knew he had a good hand cuz hes a pretty good player. On the flop comes Js Qs As, and I was pissed, cuz obviously im beat. My buddy bets it and i raise him, the other 2 in the hand fold, and he calls. On the turn comes an ace, and i am like "GOD ****IT!!!!", he is about to bet and i say "what are you doing!!!", so he looks for a second and realizes whats going on, then he checks to me. Then on the river comes an ace, he checks, I look straight at him and say "Show me a jackpot hand." He nonchalantly throw over AK, I stand up, and threw down my hand so hard i thought the cards were gonna go through the table. The hot ass asian dealer just looks for a second and mutters, "Jackpot", and the loudest roar youve ever heard errupts. The table was cool as hell, just a bunch of bros my age. I gave that hot dealer a hug from behind
