Edited hip-hop class? LOL Call your local hip-hop DJ and explain to him/her your delima.
On a semi related note, Funk Master Flex and the Furious Five are going to be inducted into the Rock'N'Roll hall of fame. : Sigh : Say it ain't so... I refuse to go there now.

if you're downloading music for the class...try searching for radio edited songs. that way you can still get hip hop that people will know and it'll be (semi) cleaned up.

I still like my "Three Feet High and Rising" De La Soul album, my "Black Sheep" album, my NWA "Thousand Miles and Runnin" Eazy-E "Eazy-Duz-It". "NWA and The Posse". "2 Live Crew". I'm sure you can go to K-mart and get edited songs on CD.
For unedited my favorite song is That one of the Black Sheep where he dreams he's all hard core gansta thug and shoots every body in his house up. LOL that was made when Gangsta stuff was just starting to get heavy with the East Coast Vs. West Coast stuff. What happend to them? Did Sug Night wack 'em?

and yea, the black eyed peas song shut up is on the elephunk album...like i said, download a radio edit -- or go to Walmart or someplace like that -- they usually have edited versions of CDs.
Another option is if you have a more small-town like record store, they'll usually special order things for you -- i knew the owner of one back in AZ who could special order - and he used to for anything he didn't have -- or there were a couple kids who wanted only edited CDs...so he had access to them. You might talk to someone that works at one of those types of places.

For a hip-hop class, you just need stuff that's familiar with a good beat that you can teach to, not necessarily stuff with the best lyrical value.
Lean Back Terror Squad
99 Problems Jay-Z
I Like That Houston
Headsprung LL Cool J
If those don't make you want to move, gotta be something wrong with you.

I like that by Houston has a great beat to dance to.

I agree smyl, but it is a christain based dance studio.. no britney, no madonna or crystina.. so we have to try to watch the cussing on the hip hop class, even the adult classes

Why don't you use the songs' tracks with no lyrics? You can sometimes find Instrumentals on Kazaa or at some music stores.

I would try a blend tape.. look for Dj Juice's R&B mixtapes.
It's upbeat, doesn't have that much profanity and has mixed songs, so they don't really seem all that played out.
