Was wondering if anyone has heard a suppresed firearm fire? I have always been fascinated with silencers forever. Especially the one for the PPK, mp5s and jack bauers sig in 24! I know they are illegal but man i would love to have one![]()

Only heard em in the movies. Wondered the same thing.
Wondering if that plastic soda carton works if taped up to the barrel. One time use but Im sure you only need to shoot once.
speaking of which i have tried that plastic soda thing. taped it to the barell of my .22 beretta. it really worked sounded like a car door being slammed. Only problem is good for one shot.Originally Posted by bermich
It depends on what weapon the silencer is attached to.
Something with a small calibre like a .22 or a .32 it will cut the noise down to a large degree, not as quiet as in the movies but fairly quiet. Like the soda ca the lose their effectiveness over time but they do work for a while. For larger caibres like .38, .357 Magnum, .45 etc they dont really cut down that much. The kind of work that requires a silencer is usually suited to the smaller calibres due to the higher rate of accuracy obtainable with smaller calibres. As an example most mafia hits are .22.
Silencers are more popular in movie than real life. They look cool though.
yeah they only cut it down by less than half the decibles.. so not that much of a difference but yet still noticable
A pillow works wonders at close range too.
Get a class III FFL.Originally Posted by Spoon
The HK23 w/ silencer sounds like a car door shutting when it fires. Pretty cool.

Never heard of it but knew a guy selling them... now hes in jail for it. Write him a letter im sure he knows all about them lol
yes it is, i had a 45 usp full size and loved it.. it is a little big but it makes up for it.. that and the glock are the only 2 that i know of that can be shot under water..Originally Posted by trauma
Silencers are also not as small as the movies would have you believe, i have shot a Mac 11 with a silencer and it was a mild pop sound.
I've shot mp5's with silencers and its sounds just like a typewriter. the bolt going back and forth
the 45 or the 9?Originally Posted by symatech
guns are sold at gun shows, stores, etc..... but such a small accessory to it such as a silencer is illegal.....u kill some1 with a gun and not the silencer so i don't get it....
the 9. i'd like to get ahold of a 45 though.Originally Posted by hung-solo
hk makes a civilian model for both calibers but of course its semi and its gray not black.. well its very similar to the mp5Originally Posted by symatech
Only in certain states are they illegal. Most states so long as you have a permit you can. http://www.atf.gov/Originally Posted by LoadeD_PistoL
they aren't illegal anymore since that ban expired. You have to pay a $200 tax stamp on it, but they are legal now.
Very good info to know!Originally Posted by Superhuman
Nope sorry dont think so. You couldnt have one before the assault weapons ban without a permit. The only exception is if it was granfathered in. It would have to be from around the 1950's. Also there are state laws that ban silencers. California for instance.Originally Posted by Superhuman
Im a CCW instructor certified & licensed by the NRA and DPS. I would love to be wrong on this one though.

I also shot the MP5SD, the 9mm version. I agree, all you could hear was the bolt clacking. Pretty bad ass. Fun as hell.

BTW, i am at the gun range at least once a month.....its really expensive here even if u bring your own gun....$75 for 30min. with glasses/earphones/100 ammo or $65 with ur own gun...
See if they will let you buy a year pass ... its usually cheaper if you go often ... most gun ranges offer themOriginally Posted by LoadeD_PistoL
