Importing a car from japan
Anyone ever import or have knowledge of importing a car from Japan?
Basically getting it cleared from customs.
Can I clear it from customs without having to go through all the emissions standards??
How much does it cost to import a car.

Are you trying to get a Skyline.

No. Im talking about an MR2 that was made in Japan. It will cost 4k to have it shipped. My inquirey is getting it registered and cleared through customs.
I read that customs can keep the car until it meets us emissions standards but they usually let the person take the car if it is for show.
I can get the car smogged so the DMV will clear it. Im just wondering if there is anything else I need to do? Keep international stickers on it or what..
Yeah, I heard a skyline cost around 10k to get it state side.

One of my friends that was stationed in Japan brought his car back and it was a pain in the ass. It ended up sitting in the customs house for nearly six months before he could get it cleared. He also had to make a lot of changes to it to make it street legal in the states, such as changing the entire windshield.

r u going there yourself or doing business through a domestic auto dealer?

A domestic auto dealer. Sweet sweet car with many upgrades. Plus I always wanted a right sided drive.
I wish I could just tell them it will be a show car and then just register it with the DMV.

I import cars from Japan as a small part-time business, but I dont live in the states so I cant tell you about your standards over there.
I dont usually pay more than US$1000 to have it landed in australasia so you might want to reconsider having it imported yourself. There should be plenty of legal Japanese cars available over there anyway so I'm wondering why you're trying to import one??
If you wanted to import a skyline however.. www.motorex.net
