Tatoo's
I'm going to be getting my first Tatoo in the next couple weeks. A nice long one across the top of my back/shoulders. Not sure what to expect in regards to pain (except for it hurting bad) but is there any over the counter Sh!t I can buy, rub on, and expect it to somewhat numb the area. It's going to take hours to put this bad boy on so I would at least love to dull the pain as best I can.
Other then that I'll just be sucking it up!

Justin, I'm with you. The pain is part of the whole tattoo thing. I don't think anyone would get them if they didn't hurt. I love it when it's really hurting and your skin gets hot and all. When I got my band I had a hard-on most of the time. Just diggin' the pain.

dont worry about the pain, i have one on my ass and it didn't even hurt hardly at all. i was more worried about the permancy part than the pain, that was the last thing that crosed my mind...

if you want a tattoo man up and take the pain. Look how many girls have them, they dont use painkillers. It only feels comparable to a million injections a minute. Take solace in teh fact that if it becomes unbearable youll pass out.

I have one on my back. The upper part of my back hurt a lot the rest of it was fine......... it wasn't imbareable but it did hurt. Also, I have a pretty good tolerance to pain.

yeah bro suck it up, its all part of the experience. hardest part is the first few pricks of the needle. after 5 minutes you kinda get used to it.

That's the response I expected! Suck it up it is then! Just like in lifting, no pain no gain I guess.
JCstomper, that's the biggest tribal tattoo I've ever seen. Hardcore!

Okay I'll be original and say "Suck it up!"
I'll also say that really there isn't any pain to speak of by the time you get home. 99% of the pain is getting it done. Tradition calls for being about 7/8 drunk when you get a tat, but that doesn't really help much. You could try a couple of vals or something, maybe some ibu or something... don't take aspirin before going in to get it cause you will bleed bleed bleed LOL!
The bad thing about tats is that they are permanent markings. If you ever want to compete above a local level, tats will be something you would rather not have, generally speaking. Also cops use them for identification which could be a small plus or could be a big minus. If I had known 27 years ago what I know now I would not have got my first tat. But everybody's different and I won't go out on a limb and say you will regret it later because odds are, you won't. But you can always get one later if you change your mind. If you get one now, you can change your mind all you want and that sucker is not gonna go away.
