    Almost went to jail in 3rd world country

    Oh s***, my wife and I decided to hire house help to help with the cooking and laundry. It is a commen thing here in sri lanka. Since i was on the streets when I was a little boy we decided to help a poor person. So today I picked up our house help. I took her to some stores and bought her toothe paste, shampoo, deoderant and so on. A couple hours later the police show up and want to take me to jail for "hiring a prostitute".

    They thought I picked her up to f*** her and all my wife and I wanted to do was help her out. Anyway she's back in broken down house and I am not in Jail. I guess that is what you get for trying to help people out.

    The only way I got out of it was by giving them money to buy alchol.

    Yeah, they asked me if I wanted to go home... and if I wanted to go back to my country because I was in what they said "a very dangerous situation" they said "I can help you out if you help me out. Do you have alchol at your home? " I said "no, I dont drink but I can give you money so you can buy some" they said "okay" and took me home after i payed them and after I recieved strict instruction not to tell anyone.. oops!

    I was in jail for a few hours in Japan for fighting in an all Japanese bar, cost me 2000 yen to get out.

    Hmmmm you might want to use a legit employment agency or contact the countries labor board for your next hire. Given the current situation in that area, there's a lot of attention to human rights abuses. Both legit law enforcement agencies and crooked cops looking to make a fast buck by scaring you are out there watching.

    Sucks. Don't forget that there's an American Citizen services rep at your local consulate if you get into trouble. They can't do a LOT for you but some back up is better than none.

    For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free". Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage, why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire Pig, just to get a little sausage.

    I think some sort of employment agency would be the smartest move (even if it costs you a bit more) in countries like Sri-Lanka

    I know that in the past Sri-Lanka had a VERY BIG problem with sex-tourism targetting minors and the government finally got fed up with it and has a very aggressive attitude towards it.

    In those conditions I think going thru the legit channels is the safest thing you can do.
