when i was unemployed i researched this a ton. i found a bunch of envelope stuffing gigs and referral jobs but thats all bs. i did find a job for paypal. you had to authorize a certain amount of transactions, which were a bunch, just to make a lil money. so id say working from home is all just bs.

Unless you have something established to then set up on-line, it's gonna be rough.

Even if you do, getting your product/service out there is really hard. Took me years to get where I am now, but I never planned it, it was meant for me to do this so I take the blessing and run w/it.

There are plenty of things you can do, you just have to keep trying until you find something that works for you.

I own a media consulting company that I run out of my house and I am doing really well, but you gotta get out there and market yourself. It's easier to market yourself locally than online, so start with that and then branch out.

I've also had plenty of success with import and export, ebay and other sites like ioffer.com can be your best friends in that area.

also entrepreneur.com is one of my favourite sites for articles and such. I believe they have a whole section devoted to homebased biz articles.

Pick up the phone, get a call list, and call new home construction areas in your town..

do deck installation..

now is the time.. tax money is available.

get them to pull the permit, and you do the work.. they buy the list of materials you give them..

get 50% from them the day the job starts... (your labor) and 50% at time of completion..

do not do it by the hour.. but by the job..

Ya if the home owner pulls the permit, you don't have to be a contractor.

Even doing roofs you make decent money, I pick up roofs in the summer around here. I invested about $700 into a compressor and a nice nailer. I can do a 30 square roof in 3-4 days depending on the pitch and how many layers are involved in the peel off. Can normaly make a few grand off each one. It's hard work, long days but it's work a lot of people are not willing to do. Siding is the same way, tools are cheaper too. If your not looking to invest, I've done siding jobs with nothing but a T bevel, strait edges, tin snips and a hammer.

And to 2nd spywizards advice, get a deposit.

You see the home owner is asking you to extend them credit.. and to trust them, all at the same time they are saying that they don't trust you..

The formula that I have used in the past is

figure out how much you want to make per job...

then multiply it by 2...

that way if you get stiffed on the 2nd half of the job, you are still profitable.

and if you get it.. you are good to go..
