Thinking about an Argentine dogo
Beatiful dogs...very loyal and smart. Im thinking about getting a one from some people who just moved close to me from Argentina.
Heres some pics of their pups.
These are kept very much to the show dog breed standards.
anyone with first hand experience with them?
thing is that in the pup pic the one on the left shouldnt have anything but a solid black nose.
? dunno waiting for a reply on that... could be the runt or it may change Im supposing.Last edited by Dally; 06-01-2005 at 02:20 PM.

They are used for boar hunting. They say they are like pitbulls but lesser aggression. They may be sensitive to sun light due to their coat color, check this out if you are living in a sunny place....

that a few others like moose, fox, puma, cougar
a wild boar can reach 400 pounds
also,
used for big game hunting, guardian, guide dog for the blind, field work, obedience, French Ring Sport, Schutzhund, agility, tracking, drug detection, support dogs, police dogs, therapy dogs, search & rescue, bomb detection etc. Due to its very stable and reliable temperament the Dogo Argentino is a very versatile dog and makes an excellent family dog. The Dogo is very fond of humans specifically children, to which it is very patient and tolerant

if u can get ur hands on it I d try a presa canraio. good race, cause it s an old spanish race and no fashion dog like pits or mastinos. they have less health problems than all other races cause they are still very rare.
they re big mofo`s up tp 80kg, so u need a strong hand to educate them. the new breeds in germany r slightly lighter but still nice.
check out the gallery:

too bad thats in german or something, the site looks good.
Nice dog, VERY NICE, but I want a all white one, not that they aren't tho and also one that rarely barks and that is good with children and strangers....which is a trait of the dogo. Along with its intelligence and hunting prowess I really find the dogo to be all I want.
NOT, that the presa cannot or does not have those traits, but like I said I cannot read that and want a white one.
there are some really nice looking dark grey ones tho...

They look very much like white large boned boxers and seem to have the temperment of one as well. Nice dog just the same!

no, not interested they up until recently have been used as fighting dogs until dog fighting was banned...they still have a very strong fighting instinct, they will be extinct... one day, very likely.
dogos have been around for quite abit longer, and were made for different purposes, they are more versatile and are more of a family dog with gaurdian instincts.
and they're all white.
presa's are nice, but if I wanted a fighting dog more so, I'd go with a pitbull, which I currently have.
thanks anyways....but dogo's are the sh*t

they r also nice dogs (though I don t like white dogs) but a dogo is actually also a fighting dog

6. The Bulldog (ample chest and boldness)
7. The Irish Wolfhound (hunter's instinct)
8. The Dogue of Bordeaux (powerful jaws)
9. The Great Pyrenes (white coat)
10. The Spanish Mastif (great power and strength)
The presa's are not as "tight" looking and muscular as the dogo's. Thats the mastiff in them.
The presas were from the now extinct native and indigenous Bardino Majero crossed with english Mastiffs. It was developed in the Canary islands specifically for dog figthing.
I want a family gaurdian tough, loving dog I can control at ALL times.
There is more in the dogo for what im looking for, but hey, all dogs are individuals.
Do you have a presa bro?

wow, u know ur shit
no, I don t have a presa. I don t have time for a dog. and my parents have my old dog at their house (well it was a family dog), my beloved boxer
I don t want an agressive dog. no way I would have such a dog around my kids (or other kids/dogs). a spanish friend I visit once a year breeds presa`s. their great dogs as long as u educate them and the best thing is if u have at least 2 dogs. presa`s or fighting dogs in general tend to be more agressive, if kept alone...

I may have found one.... this dude is 6 years old was a champion show dog and the owners have to give em up, etc etc. He's I25 pounds and not fat, the owners have kids and other dog with this fella and supposedly is a real nice dog. I'm gonna go see him when I get a chance and he just may come to stay with me.
