I have to admit I am also lucky with the "no cheap friends" thing...
It's actually quite the oposite and it's almost scary... we go out for drinks or a meal and usually end up arguing over who's turn it is to pay for the bill... we all want to pay it and you almost have to jump on the waiter or sneak over the cash to grab the bill
None of us are rich, but I guess it's just that we all enjoy treating our friends.

I had a friend in high school that was cheap as hell. We would all get together, and of course we couldn't ride in his jeep for one reason or the other, so usually I drove.
On night we all got together, and we headed to the package store. When we got to the package store, he had no money to buy beer, so feeling bad for him we chipped in and got him some beer. Then later in the night when we got into town, we stopped at a fast food joint, and mysteriously he produces a $20 to buy him something. I immediately called him on it, and asked him what the hell, I thought he didn’t have any money. He tells me that he simply didn’t want to break a $20, that’s the last time he went of with us.
Cheap Bastard.
I understand being thrifty with your own money, but don’t save your money by spending mine.
