Compression Compartment Syndrome!!!(I almost lost my arm!)
Just wanted to type about this!!! Last week I got in a wakeboarding accident and almost lost my arm!!
My buddy crossed behind a 60+ft charter boat for me to catch the wake. In the air my rope caught slack and caused me to nose dive! Underwater the rope still had slack in it and managed to wrap around my arm. I was drug around 100 yards under water! Finally the rope slipped off my arm. When I surfaced I had an indention in my arm and was unable to move my fingers! I was disoriented from lack of oxygen. When my friends managed to swing back around they pulled me into the boat. Looking at my arm out of the water we concluded that i haf broken the bone completely through. So we rode to the shore and I set on the beach with my arm in the ice chest while I told them to go back out for one more ride! Unable to bear the pain we left then! I rode an hour and a half to the best hospital in my area! Upon arriving they x-rayed my arm just to see no bones were broken! Confused my the massive swelling and indention he called in 3 more doctors into my ER room! Of the 3 doctors only one had seen what was happening to my arm before! He left and returned with a neddle which he stuck into the bottom of my arm to measure the pressure! In shock he told me ppl's arm pressure isn't suppose to be above 16 psi(pounds per square inch) And that mine was at 76 psi and rising rapidly!! He felt for a pulse in my arm and could not find one! The 3 doctors told me that within 30 min they would have to amputate my arm. Unless they rushed me into surgery right then! So I said bring on the surgery! The TWO surgeries they performed were first he split my arm open 18 inches to releave the pressure then 72 hours later took skin off my thigh and closed my arm back up! I spent a week in the hospital with them watching me my heart rate got up tp 130 and my blood pressure 200 0ver 130! So make sure you go to the hospital in a tmely manner even if your not sure bc I am thankful to still have my arm!
