Everytime I go to max out my bench I get worried that I'll tear a pec or something else that will make that weight come down on my neck. In all of my years in the gyms I've seen several people leave on stretchers from benching and squating.
I hope your friend is ok and gets back to business soon. It will always be in the back of his mind though.

i tore something in my shoulder last year and dropped 275 on myself but damn 4 plates would hurt so much worse. hope your boys going to be alright. is it alright now or is he going to have to take some time off or even surgery?

I think he'll need screws at the worst. Probably going to have to rehab it for a year and a half with uber light weight. I'm feeling that right now. I hate training with light weight. People that'd seen me pushing 245 around for reps now look at me like WTF?

OUCH! This brings back some bad mems. I was almost on the fifth floor, and heard a "pop." Thank God, my training partner was able to hoist that sh*t off me.
Surgery, rehab, pain meds, sucks.

Yeah, I learned the hard way.
Funny, the reason why I added the 25's to the 4plates, was b/c there was a girl on the cardio machines nearby and I was trying to impress her (she is a hottie). LOL, I could have sworn that I saw her laughing after I ripped my sh*t. She probably didn't know the extent of the injury, but nevertheless, I looked like an ass.

ouch, i had a similar thing but it was my tendon just ripped off with loud noise and it took 11 months to heal so i can lift up only 150 lbs again. it took exactly 2 years to completely heal up.

Goddamnit! I hate waiting two years just to get back to where I can go heavy again. Every week feels like I'm gettin weaker instead of stronger.

I'd say that qualifies as going too heavy!
