Gas trades as a commodity like gold , so its only going up up up . And the huricane took out alot of refineries down there . Heard yesterday it was trading at 71$ a barrel.....bet its higher today .

It's not the government, and it's not the gas stations. It's the investors. Prices went up due to anxiety over the possible damage that the hurricane would do to the oil drilling sites in the Gulf. Individual investors are being "greedy" because that is how they earn their living, by waging their own livelyhood on the possibility that something will hold value to someone else. You can't blame anyone for trying to get rich, or avoid becoming poor.

Well, that's where the problem is. Your governmnet gets to decide what is good for its people. That's crap. If a guy wants to buy a liter of gas, than he wants a liter of gas. Period. He doesn't buy that liter of gas so that the governmnet cn take more than half of what he pays and spend it how they see fit. People are perfectly capable of deciding what they need. I can't believe you guys aren't marching to the capital with pitchforks and torches. 70%? That's robbery, plain and simple.

It hit 2.59/gallon here this morning. 20 cents more than the night before. It's hurtting my bottom line since for an average day of work I use almost a full tank and a full tank is 50 bucks for me now.

I drove an 18-wheeler a couple years back, and I couldn't understand how the independent guys did it then. Us company guys had the diesel paid for by our employer, IC's had to fork over the bread themselves.
Can't even imagine how bad it is now. Yeah, a good drivers strike might be in order. Couldn't hurt anyway.
I used to gripe about my four-banger Hyundai. Now I love my little gas sipper
