The key here is agressive treatment of the virus. The drugs may be tough, but with the many choices available, most patients can be given a regimen that works, and is tolerable. One way to think about the need for permanent pills, is to compare it to high blood pressure or cholesterol. Take the meds and you have a controlled chronic illness. Stop the meds and you are going to have problems.
