Does anyone know As far as prior service army goes, if you wanted to change your mos from one mos to infantry, is their like a special training brigade for prior service. because i know that their is osut you go from basic right to infantry training. I have no clue how that would work. obviously i wouldnt go through basic training again. Any idea?

you would not have to go to basic training again. If you are going to a national guard unit you they will send you to a mosq school. basically the infantry's ait, but a lot easier. I am in the infantry right now in the florida national guard was in full time at fort bragg as airborne infantry. but I only have 6 more months.

Okay. Im actually transfering from reserves to active duty but im going to reclass to infantry. you wouldnt happen to know how long the infantry school is would ya? So it would probly be alot of soldiers reclassifing?

yea there is a lot of people changing their mos's to infantry because of the big as* bonus that the infantry gets.... you are getting the bonus.....right? I don't really remember how long the AIT portion of it was it was to long ago. if i remember right it was close to two months but they may have changed it though... good luck and you know you will prob end up in IRAQ or Afgah.

Yea the bonus is up to like 14 grand. i know regular infantry training is like six weeks. I was wondering if id have to do some kind of course to get the military mind back seeing ive been out for a little while before going to infantry school. what do you think?

Im going to try to get into the 10th mountain division, and hopefully afgahn. id prefer there. but whatever happens happens, im not too picky.

On a side note: I was on active duty in 2001 and was a signal support systems specialist at fort gorgon georgia. i did basic at benning. then i went right to the reserves. my unit was never deployed. i was released in 2003 and have been irr. when they released me they never gave me a dd214 so ive been runnin around trying to find one to get my honorable discharge. during my escapade i decided to go active infantry. if i dont do it now i never will and i dont want to be a forty year old married guy having regrets of not fully serving my country.

you wont get your honorable discharge until your "total" service agreement is up and that includes IRR( remeber everyone serves 8 years ) so when your IRR trem is up you will get a discharge certificate . but if your transfering to the active duty from reserves you shouldn't have to mess with all that the recruiter and your unit will take care of all the paperwork.you can always go to your unit and request your DD214( though you should have multiple copies on hand already).

your absolutely right. i just got a letter in the mail today saying that the national records center never recieved a dd214 for me. which is common when leaving the reserves. but i do have many letters stating ive been released and as far as transfering over thats good enough.

and you just go to AIT for 5 weeks. remember OSUT is 14 weeks. 9 weeks basic and 5 weeks AIT. it is some easy a$$ sh*t man. by the way, have fun down in benning! thats if they put you there for the AIT portion! My bro just got back from a national guard deployment which i attended for 4 months. then i got hurt and sent back. well he got back and said that infantry national guard worked him to the bone. and also, the last 6 months were hell for them in iraq. getting IED'ed and mortared all day long almost every day. just make sure your hard when you go in! which i am sure you are if your joining Full time infantry. LOTS OF GROUND POUNDIN! also one more side note, dont just join for the 14 grand. join cus you wanna be hard, otherwise youll hate it and probably end up trying to get out. a lot of people did in my unit and my basic training unit.
