If there was one job you always had a dream of doing what would it be?
Think back to when you were a kid and wanted to be a police officer or a fire fighter. Well modify it and bring it to the present day. What would be a job that you can only dream of having. I think mine would be working as an anti-terrorist/CIA operative and maybe even working as a private security contractor, i.e. Blackwater/ Dyncorp. Something exciting as all hell and can look back on that would make myself proud and say I had an exciting life.

what i really want to do is become a mechanical engineer. ive always been told that my strong point is math, so its fitting for me to do something that involves that. i suppose that doesn't count though cause i am going to be an engineer. as for a dream job that probably would never happen, id have to say id like to be a movie star. that would be tight cause id be rich, and i wouldn't have to work a normal job. id have the money to buy lots of gear... i can only imagine what id look like if i did 10 more cycles of test prop and tren acetate. il eventually get that much gear in me, but its gonna take a long time cause i can only cycle once a year.

Well, it's true. I mean yeah we all said policemen, firemen, doctors, etc., when we were in 2nd grade and had to tell the class what we were going to be.
As far as what I eventually got into as a hobby and past-time (fitness/weights/bodybuilding and shows/etc.) yeah I dreamed I wish I could do that and nothing else. I hated working for stupid companies and their boring shit.
Then, it just happened....

when i was in school i said i wanted to become an Instrument mechanic, which is someone who travels all over calibrating and building gas plants and oil refinery equipment, i did that for 7yrs and was lucky to travel all over the world and retired 2 years ago. so i then turned toward BB and now my dream is to turn pro one day, even though i am 27 i still think i can make it one day.

not going to lie, as a chilld I never had the "big dream".. I was obsessed with racing though, my father raced in a professional circuit, and I went to race school, loved it.. but theres elements about it that change your life.... I am now in school for engineering... To be honest I dont care about "hitting it big".. I just want a healthy, happy family!

I think another job I would love to have is studying animals in the amazon or in the african plains. When i'm all wound up or pissed off or just need some peace I still go to the bronx zoo and chill out, even if its by myself......yes flame away lol

my dream job is the one that pays good money and all business rather than just having a fancy job title.

I am on my way to getting my dream job. Beeing a astrophysicsist. Sure I get plenty of years left before Im done with my education but getting to know how the universe works bit by bit is my dream aswell so I enjoy it fully
I will be the worlds happiest guy the day I stand up and defend my doctorat thesis and get my PhD!!
The only dream job I could imagine beeing better is beeing Astronaut. That would be the rush of a lifetime. I would kill to become a astronaut.

I saw the centrifuges and underwater demonstrations of space station repair and toured through a mock Mir space station. It was pretty awesome now that I think about it. One day I was walking with the other Americans I was with and Alexei Leonov (sp) pulled up in an Eddie Bauer Ford Expedition and I had no clue who he was. Apparently he did the first space walk ever or for the Russians, I forget which. They have a planetarium there, schools, flats (where i stayed), a restaurant, a few bars. It was pretty interesting. You're in Sweden so you're not so far off. You should try to go there at some point. It would be well worth it if you're interested in all that.

thats impressive bro. getting a phd in anything is tough, but physics... thats got to be one of the toughest subjects you could choose. but its great that you enjoy it, i feel the same way about physics, but not to the same extent as you.

I know I could never manage a thing like biochemistry or organic chemistry for instanc. No way, it makes no sense to me.
Pure maths would be hard for me aswell. I understand maths easily, but not enough to ever dream of getting a phd in maths.
Anyway Im only at my second year as a undergrad right now so I wont have my phd for atleast 6-8 years

yea chem is tough. i hated doing those damn net ionic equations where you have to calculate how much of each chemical you start and finish with. the labs were hell too. it surprises me that you find physics to be easier than math. i found calc 3 and differential equations to be much easier than e&m and modern physics. god, quantum mechanics is absolute hell. applying the schrodinger equation to the bohr hydrogen model was probably the ugliest derivation i have ever seen. optics and theory of relativity were not that bad though.

I dont think I have any real interest in maths alone. If I put my mind into it I get it. But maths alone isnt fun to me To abstract.
Like Feynman said(something like it atleast).
Maths is to physics what masturbation is to sex.
e&m is though that I got to admit. I havent taken many courses in modern physics yet. Just introduction to special relativity in mechanics II and a pretty broad introduction to quantum physics.

im looking through my old notes of that and its obvious i was clened out when i took these. haha

yea, math is very abstract and theoretical. with physics there is actual physical meaning to what you are doing.

About the schrödinger equation. I enjoyed using it right now I dont remember much though. But that will freshen up quickly I bet when I have the solid state physics later this spring.
The most elegant equation in all of physics that I have seen is easily Lagranges formulation of classical mechanics. When I learned how to use it I feelt pure joy. Sounds corny lol. Looking forward to taking a class of analytical mechanics to get a better feel for it.
To bad modern theoretical physics seems to have lost its connection to reality. Like string theory ect. Maths that would make the hair on Gauss neck raise.

the only thing i remember about Lagrange was doing Lagrange multiplying or whatever it was in linear algebra.
-
01-29-2006, 06:30 PM #38
The Lagrangian is(T=kinetic energy, V=potential energy)
L=T-V
Lagranges equation is
You can SO easil solve alot of mechanics problem with this. Things that would be close to impossible with newtons forumlation of mechanics.
Damn we realy turned this thread into a geek fest lol

ahh partial derivatives. call me a dork but i think long derivations with partial derivatives and line integrals is sexy.
