Anyone see Brokeback Mountain
A friend lent this to me on bootleg DVD. It got great reviews so I wanted to see what the big deal was. As I was watching it, in the earlier scenes, wow there was some serious man-loving going on there! I sensed my own homophobia as I was wincing and I can viscerely sense the origins of homophobia in general and on this site in particular (as seen on previous threads here). The scenes were pretty sexually explicit. But hanging in there and getting the overall sense of the movie, I began to appreciate how their love and their lives were traced over twenty years through that historical period (mid west early 1963- 70's) and how they lived inauthentically to appease social norms. The bottom line was that these two people truly loved each other and they were kept apart by an intolerant society and that's just tragic. Tragedy always makes for good art because it's truthful to life.

i have not yet to see it im to to sure if i will, i dont know if i can hadel renting it, but i read the same reveiws you basicly just wrote in your thread...
I dont think people should bash the movie there are some very respectable actors in the film, i beleive it is nominated in the grammys this year...
Although a few female friends of mine witnessed the fil and told me i should relax and veiw it, one of them is gonna have to rent it, because i am a homophob.

This film will challenge you to think through your own homophobia - if you have a good attitude about tolerance and alternative lifestyles.

I think i will just have a problem renting it, actually walking up to the counter with that movie..My Father owns a small movie store way out in the country and he will refuse to carry the fil i wish he was more open minded about things like these, but my step mother has brain washed him to knw end..

It's an interesting thing how people respond. I always reason that if two people with a lifestyle of their choice that's their right...right? Although I'm all for that I get very uncomfortable when gays come onto me. I'm a target for that being into the bodybuilding scene and all.

I can't see myself watching it, love story movies aint my thing, cowboy movies aint my thing and gay movies aint my thing so the chances of me liking it are pretty remote.
I'm sure the movie is well made and all but the only reason it's attracting so much praise is because it's controvertial.
