    Okay time to confess....

So many people on here say they can bench, squat and/or dead ridiculous amounts based on their size, age and years of lifting.

I want to say I can only bench 275 max.. I know I know you want a video well too dam bad

I can only squat about 305.. sorry no video.

Deads.. well... lets not talk about that..

Okay I just felt someone here needed to be honest..

Just kidding old man - those aren't bad lifts at all, especially if you don't train for those lifts specifically. Don't be ashamed. Okay, I'll be the next honest person.

    Bench 405
Squat 575 (probably more, but i don't compete so i don't ever try)
    Deadlifts 505 x 8 reps (i've never maxed to a 1 lift weight)

I have always been weak in bench.. hell I am weak altogether but I still work hard. I have gotten serious over the past 13-14 weeks and have gained some strength (again thanks to SC) but I have on-going elbow and shoulder joint problems which I think hinder my gains.. Well at my age I am pleased.. My goal is to get to 315 on bench that would be very cool.

    Who's next to confess?

No, but seriously I have really long arms so the bench press is one of my worse lifts. I never use the barbell anymore anyways, strictly dumbells.

I fell like I am posting a lot today.. gosh..

anyway I changed from doing flat bench to flat dumbells too, 2 out of every three weeks. I have found it is less pressure on my shoulders than straight bar since you can move your arms where they are comfortable. I do have to say I was stoked when I push 95's for 8 X 4sets last week.. If I could get to 100's.. that would be cool cool.

Yea the barbell is bad on my shoulders as well. I hurt my shoulder last week and i've still been lifting and I did chest last night and hurt it again. I can't even put on my shirt!!! I feel crippled. I need to take some time off now and i'm on a cycle. Hopefully the deca will lube it all up and help it heal quicker.

Shoulder injuries really do suck. My shoulder is only muscle i've had problems with.

My bench is pretty bad too, I think because I have tendonitis. My deadlift sort of sucks but my best lifts are

    Bench 340lbs
    Squat 585lbs
    Deadlift 455lbs

at a body weight of 220-225

If I don't train bench specifically for strength it always falls back down to around 300lbs.

holy crap that sounds like mine too.. I was like where is that little lazer cutter.. Mine was about 4" long too.. It is healed good now but a real biatch.. it kept getting infected.. nasty..

Well don't over do it bro.. it takes a while to heal but once it is done that mesh stuff they put in there will make it stronger but you have to let the sutures heal into the tissue first..

Arnold presses are without a doubt the best exercise for your shoulder.

I incorporate them into every shoulder workout first. Just take 2 dumbells and start palms facing you parrallel to your shoulders. Than slowly move them up while twisting them around so that your palms will be facing outward at the top over your head. Probably not the best description, lol. Hope this helps.

Just think of reg shoulder presses, but with a little bit of a twist.

what will be funny is someone nOOb will drag this thread up in 4 months... and say they squat 800 at the age of 18... oh wait that happened already.

Quick question while we are on lifting subject.. what do you guys see the weight dropping from when you to straight bar to dumbbells as far as total weight. I can bench more on straight bar but the pain gets me compared to dumbbells. Do you guys see the same weight on both or what difference..

    thanks

Okay I got you.. I thought they were some sort of shoulder press but the twist helps?? with my shoulder problem do you think I am causing more issues? I press with my palms facing forward the whole lift.. I do not go below parrellel in the down position so I don't put too much pressue on the joint? Sorry I know off topic.. sorry to the Original Poster.. (oh wait that me).

thanks bro.. this is very helpfull. I should have asked in the lifting forum. ooops.

I think dumbells would be less weight because it involves more isolation than your barbell press. But My barbell press is pretty weak and pathetic also which I haven't done it in ages so I'm not a good example.

One rep for these 2, don't really max out anything else.

    Bench: 265
    Squat: 275

These numbers are natural, soon to change probably.

I cannot bench anymore (right now anyway) because of triceps tendonitis. My best ever bench was a few years back: 305 x 8. My squat sucks big time, keeping in mind that I am tall (at least that is my excuse...) my personal best was 315 x 6 with a spot. Deadlift is an excersize that I excluded from my routine for way to long..in fact, in 13 years of training, the last 6 of which have been serious, I have only deadlifted as part of a workout ONCE - at the end of a back session - I started with 185 x 10 and worked up to 275 x 8. I intend to start these in earnest next week. I am sure the pounds will add up fast.

Yea by twisting them allows you to hit all three heads of your delts. I do them standing though.

Here. Take a look at this.

The ROM is slightly different, there is isolation ivolved and mechanically your body isn't as efficient for dumbell press. Also, most likely your starting from the bottom of the movement so you don't have any momentum to start the lift.

That is a good point.. I have trouble getting the first ones going.. If I can get my arms under the DB's I can press them for at least 6 reps (that is what I have seen so far). Bringing from my knees and back and then up is getting harder with the higher weights and it takes so much energy to knock off that first one.

You mean size really does not matter? I agree.. That is something I really watch. Sure the last few reps of the last set a little cheat I can live with but I see guys using their backs to swing up curls. what a joke.
