Advice about guys in the gym...

There must be a new crop of idiots at the gym this week. I always wear a headset to keep people from talking to me and I try not to talk to any guys because most (I said most) think it is an invitation to start conversing. So if I want a bench or something I will point and they will nod, it is an understood communication that serious lifters can appreciate. NOT TODAY! There were all these guys there "lifting"...I think. My question- I hate to hurt people's feelings but how do I tell them to leave me the alone. I had a hat on, headset, and made no eye contact.

it's all the power of body language,

always stick to workouts, look serious about it, make sure you earphones are in, and whenever anyone goes to talk to you, make a bit of a dissapointment look and take out one of your earphones as if your going out of your way. They'll stop talking to you.

I am very focused at the gym. Here is an example. I was going to do leg presses and someone left 2 45's on both sides. So I was taking them off, I wasn't pissed, I wasn't struggling, just doing my own thing and out of nowhere this guy comes over and practically knocks me down to take the plate off for me. He says..I hate when people leave the weights on, I say yeah me too but I am used to it. I got it. Thanks. Do my set, rest get ready to put another plate on and there he is taking out of my hands, he says..Here I got that for you. You guys..come on. I wasn't struggling. Wasn't looking around. Argghhh!

that sounds like alittle more than some guy trying to make conversation...tell him to get lost...seriously Ive dealt with humans in different areas but most of them are stupid...you really have to spell things out for them...sorry probably isnt what you wanted to hear...

You are considerate but you shouldn't be fearful of talking to girls in the gym. Just dont do it while they are in the middle of working out!

I need to get over being so nice. I hate hurting people's feelings though becuase he probably was a nice guy or is just awkward around girls, I dont know. See? There I go making excuses for him. Ugh. You are right, I need to spell it out.

It could be the best thing thats ever happened to him...think about it...if it is because hes akward with girls then all girls will think of him the same way you do...annoying and overly helpful...he thinks you are needy...he needs to learn that this is not TV...you have to gradually move to speaking to people in such ways...This isnt Cinemax (shout out to Jerry Seinfeld) people dont just bump into each other and hit it off...

Or maybe I have no idea

Many guys are just plain dumb.. There are always more guys in the gym than ladies where I go.. But I see what you are talking about all the time and it makes me sick. I see guys staring at a girl when she is doing bent over rows or whatever.. I will say something to them.. I tell them to get back to work it is not a peep show.

You either have to be rude or live with men trying to pick up on you.. some just need it straight forward like this.

Next time one tries to take a weight from you just say "No, thanks I don't want to you hurt yourself little boy" and then look at his crotch and snicker.. I bet he does not talk to you again.

Just start grunting and slamming plates together. Kinda scares people off. Or you act like you only speak Ukrainian. Ive done it, it works. Also, just dont ever make eye contact with anyone.

Why yes I do, but if you read my original post you will see my problem is that I am too nice. Could you imagine if a girl flipped you off in the gym?

this is what i do.. i just stop for a second and say nicely... that im tryin to compete as a BBer, that my time in the gym is limited, if they would like to talk to catch me on the way in, or out, but my time in the wt room is precise and id appreciate it if they respected that.

I think GQ Bouncer nailed it, good advice. And here all this time I thought I was doing people a favor by leaving 1 or 2 plates on the leg press .

Just interrupt them and say I have to finish my workout and put your head phones back on. That's what I do.

What were they saying to you?

If they are asking for help....help them
If it is a simple question....answer it

If they are hitting on you....tell them you only date body builders....and to call you after the gain 50 more lbs.

i have a great idea, you could politely say that you are pressed for time cause you need to meet your husband for lunch soon... i bet that would discourage any guys trying to talk to you. if they keep harassing you, you should show them a picture of swolecat and tell them that he is your husband, and that hes very protective and that he gets very angry when people try to hit on his wife.
