This is what jails should be like!!!!!

From another board but I FVCKING agree with it 100%

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

F'kin right, this guy has the idea!

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

    More on the Arizona Sheriff:

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 year. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

If you agree, pass this on. If not, just delete it.

Sheriff Joe was just reelected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona.

fairly.... that's the problem.. compared to what.??

i agree with the situation, and i think it's just a medium or low risk prison.. no murders or that nature there..

That's part of the problem. There's that liberal idiot element in society that's giving these scum an easy time in jail. Our whole legal system needs a kick up the backside. If you commit a crime you should be treated like a criminal ie NO FVCKING RIGHTS WHATSOEVER!!!!

We invaded Iraq and give countries like Iran "the finger" but I tell you what they got their law and order policy right in those countries. If you steal you get a hand cut off, if you go to prison you share a tiny cell with 10 other prisoners and have to shit in a hole in the floor!!!!!!!!

Bring back public beatings, whiipings and executions and let's start treating criminals like the scum they are!!!!!

Sheriff Joe is a retired DEA guy...he was a stud...worked undercover and had some major busts. He has been sheriff for about 12 years or longer and the tent city has been around like 10years. He has been sued about the treatment but they have never won........

People do not like to go back to jail in Arizona....it is not pleasent...I've heard.

Yeah, then lets bring back lynching as well.

I mean, gosh, lets just throw out due process the way countries like Iran and Iraq do and gas the citizens we consider evil. No, not gas, they should be tortured. Hell yeah, lets just go ahead and torture all of the people we think are evil based on assumptions and figures we need to make our prison system bring in more money with more bodies so we can get some free work out of them.

YES, then we won't have to have a modern day industrial slave complex by making the most petty things illegal. No, then we can just say "You're evil. Go work in this field for FREE."

I mean, it sure is better than just throwing in the small number of truly crazed individuals that are a threat to society in a place separated from society. Lets just invade people's lives, make their lives living shit holes because we deem them evil, cause them to do something evil against the general populace, and put them to work for FREE.

It makes you look a heck of a lot better doing it this way then just rounding up evil people, taking them from their homes, and putting them to work for FREE. FREE labor is the BEST.

Arpaio's an interesting character that's for sure. He's definately hard-core, but not nearly as hard-core as he proclaims himself to be. He claims credit for things he never did and claims credit for things he didn't conceive. He also has cost the state millions in lawsuits from police officers, families, former inmates etc.

And when running he refused to read anything that was unscripted, that means no debates. As I understand there is a large movement in Arizona law enforcement to remove him from office.

But I do like the pink boxers, socks, uniforms, handcuffs he makes the inmates wear. And the comment about the soldiers is fantastic, especially since they are wearing heavy gear and not just sitting around in their boxers all the time.

    Damn thats ****ing brilliant

I think prison sentances should be only for those that comit crimes that make them a danger to have out in society and I think if they have done such crimes they should be treated like it. That means gulag workcamps.

But the laws would need to be checked over carefully first before making jails worse because ALOT of "criminals" simply do not deserve to be in jail.

Props to him. I have many complaints with the Penal system, however, I don't think my tax dollars should fund criminals with niceties when hardworking families starve and go without adequate healthcare.

I saw the special on him as well one night. He runs a tight prison and it works. I cant stand the idea of people who are convicted murderers etc having a better living situation than myself. In fact just this year in a sociology course I am taking I found out (to my shock) that in a Federal Penitentiary the cost to house a single inmate, including all supplies/food etc etc for one year comes in at $87 000. I mean that is more than the average Joe makes in a year. I like the tent-prison idea.

i have never been to prison. but i did spend 7 months in jail for misuse of communications charges (felony 3, first offense) Now of course it wasnt fun, food sucked. cloths sucked. tv sucked. beds sucked. but we did have a weight room!! which is what changed my whole bid and made me want to get up everyday and see how much weight i could put up. since i have gotten out i have moved far away from any of my bad friends. i eat correctly. train correctly. work 60 hours a week plus volunteer a good 20 hours a week. i spend time with my dog and my girl friend of 3 years. i would never like to go back to jail. but i think that the treatment the sheriff is giving them is a tad bit unfair. i understand the smoking and porn (i dont smoke and dont have time for porn) but the food?? i mean we all know how to figure out your basic caloric intake and i doubt they are making that... im not talkin about eatin to get huge but eating to stay healthy. there were alot of rapists, child molesters and murderers in the jail with me waiting to be senteced to prison. but there were also alot of young kids like myself who just made a mistake. hung out with the wrong ppl. got in a fight over something stupid and accidently broke a nose so the other kid pressed charges. i mean petty things. for those types of ppl i say let em have a little tv and air conditioning. most of them get out and dont come back, but the repeat offenders. the multiple offenders and of course the rapists, murderers. they all deserve a little bit more of a harsher enviroment. but not quite as harsh as the sheriff is giving out.

GOLF COURSE! Wow, that is where my tax money goes...I mean that is just beyond necessary. I feel they should be given the essentials to live a life free of diseases/unsanitary conditions etc, but that is it.

yea...I don't think prison should be a pretty place...but this is a county jail he was running. Alot of these folk are locked upped still under the presumption of being innocent until their trial...so his treatment does seem a tad bit harsh.

Once you have been convicted...Then you can give them the pink underroos.

gq-bouncer ....thats pretty wild they have a golf course....the inmates are actually allowed to use that shit???

I like the idea of keeping the cost down, but I don't like the idea of making prison as aversive as possible. We all work hard enough to live a decent lifestyle, so there's no reason that prisoners couldn't do enough work to pay for a comfortable prison sentence. We could turn prisons into car factories and improve the economy instead of leaching money from it. I also believe the focus in prison should be to train people with marketable skills that can make them enough money that it won't be worth it to go back to a life of crime for financial gain. I saw a show once where they took immates and trained them to be comercial divers. This is perfect cause it pays really well, and most ex cons won't be turned off by the high risk nature of the work.
