CONAN FANS MUST SEE!! Sword & Custom Display Cases

    What's up bros?

I'm a sword collector, and finally aquired a Conan Atlantean replica from the movie. This thing weighs in at about 10 lbs. I made a custom display case for it. See photos below. I put my autographed Arnold photo in it.
    Enjoy.

If anyone likes what they see, I'm thinking about producing and selling the cases. I also know where you can have a sword made. Any MMA guys who have a favorite Saumrai sword - I make Samurai displays also.

    Over and out.

You can get a decent looking samurai sword for anywhere from $50-$300, but they won;t be combat ready and will likely be 440 Stainless, which will flake or shatter if used. A good full tang carbon steel or folded steel katana can cost thousands, yes. WHen I started collecting, I just bought the cheaper ones just for looks. for example, the samurai sword in the photo above is a replica from The LAst Samurai and is relatively inexpensive, but it looks good in that case.

The samurai case would probably cost around $600-$700 to reproduce, because it's all rough cedar, labor intensive, and the lighting is expensive.

Some martial arts schools spar with them, and some use them for kata.

Most people, like myself, like having a quality katana as a collector's piece for decoration.

Actually, my father's a skilled carpenter, so he does most of the work. We both collaborated throughout the design process. Each display case takes nearly a week to complete. Hopefully I'll have all 3 of the prototype cases displayed in my house soon.

Here in Japan one forged under order made would cost you about US$1000 but
those are the best blades in the world when it comes to Katana, you need also
and authorization from the local police before you buy one.

    You got it.
Some Shinken Katana can exceed $2000 if you go overboard. They also can take up to 8 months to be forged.
This is why I thought these displays would be a good idea. No sense in spending big money on a sword and displaying it on a cheap $5.00 stand.

I can't go out into the streets unless i have my Conan sword and a stash of throwing stars and my blow gun. Just yesterday i took on a band of merry men and a slew of ninjas It's a pain in the arse putting on all that armour just to go the village down the path

Hey, I wonder if Arnold has an autographed photo of Mealticket's quads in his Rec room.

I think the cases are really nice but the cedar makes them look a little cheesy. Quality craftsmanship should be showcased with fine hardwoods. Try some Birdseye or curly Maple or Claro Walnut crotch. Your dad did a bang up job with his power tools but if you plan to sell any, people are gonna want nicer woods.

I think we chose the rough-cut cedar because it was more rustic and masculine and could be finished however someone wants.
The main reason we chose cedar was to keep the price of the display at a reasonable price. The cases are so labor intensive and the lighting is extremely expensive, that adding expensive wood to the mix might make them unsellable.
I'm sure a custom job with a specialty wood would be an option.

Thanks for the post anyway - I appreciate the input, especially because it actually pertains to the thread.

I've placed you in the corner for bad behavior.

When you no longer act 6, you may be able to post again.

    Until then,

I probably wouldn't fight with a $2000 sword, but I know at my old dojo some of the folks there practiced Iaido (the art of drawing the sword, killing the opponent and sheathing the shord in one gracefull movement).

Iaido is practiced with live blades, and the advanced practitioners use expensive combat ready sword as they are perfectly balanced (which is not the case with cheap imitations).

Yep, Iado is very dangerous, blindly sheathing a real blade. It's definitely an artform that requires great skill. Never tried it myself. Splitting my hip flexor with a sword might interfere with my job and workouts.
