    Money or fun?

If you had the chooise betwen a extremely high paying job that is EXTREMELY boring or a medium paying job that you would love.

    What would you choose?

Depends on what your definition of high and medium pay is, just how bad the boring job is and whether you are talking about a job for life.

Having a job you enjoy is the dream though.

Assume its a job for life. Or that the offer comes only once and the job you turn down will never be aviable again.

hmm well high could be 30k/month

    medium 5k/month

With that sort of differential in the money the fun job would have to be porn star fun and the boring job would have to be pretty mind numbingly boring for me to consider getting paid 1/6th of what I could earn if I knuckled down.

Don't think of it as earning 6 times as much, think of it as only working for 7yrs till you retire instead of 42.

Having a job you enjoy is the best thing in the world but wasted potential is the worst.

Exactly, I could understand guys taking the fun option if we were talking about 1/2 as much money but we're talking about the difference between 60k a year and 360k a year, work your ass off for 10yrs investing your money wisely then live it up baby!

I think of it like this. If I had a job I love I would not want to retire early and I would easily live on 5k I could not possibly stand spending 40 hours a week on something I hate. I would go nuts retirering young

Well we're talking about 60k or 360k a year and I took it that we were talking about someone Johan's age - it's a no brainer.

Well without the two job descriptions that's the best I can do.

I will say though that what you think is a fun job now may not be fun after you have done it for a few years, then where will you be?

If you had earned 360k a year for say 10 years think of the money you could have invested ready for your retirement, no need to "go nuts" if you're sat on a pile of cash - travel the world, hell start your own business venture if your work ethic is that strong.

The description would be different for everyone I guess

For me the medium paying fun job would be as a physicist actively in research in some field I love.
The high paying boring job to me would be some kind of management job.

I would probably never get sic of the fun job since it would never get old to me and I would be doing something I would choose to do even if I didnt get payed.

I guess it all depends on what you think is a fun job though?

and with go nuts I mean that if I had a boring job that I was forced to spend 40 hours a week on I would feel like putting a bullet in my head.

The sentance was structured a bit wierd

If the research job is honestly the most fun you can imagine having then I guess that's the way to go for you. As hard to believe as this may be for you you may not always feel the same about it, we all change as we get grow older.

I'd love to have a job I enjoyed but I am a mercenary person and a 6x difference in pay would be too great for me to ignore.

I thought the "go nuts" statement was in reference to boredom from retiring early.

yeah. the question was I guess to se if people feel so strongly about some possible job that they would pic it over cash if they had the chooise.

A fun job could be beeing a sponsored bodybuilder for a bodybuilding freak or something like that.

now Im confusing myself it was both to retireing young and to have a boring job.

if I retired young I would be so utterly bored that it would be insane

That might just float my boat!

If a well equipped home gym, food, anabolics, personal trainer & dietician and £5k a month were all included then I think we've got a deal.

I noted $5k was maby a bit cheap for the medium wage job when I think about it.
7k would be more like what I had in mind since I was thinking about 50k swedish kronor.
