intimidated
Yesterday me and my friend were deadliftiing at the local community center gym. WE took special pains not to slam the weights on the ground since we didnt want to destroy the floor - the floor is not padded. However we could not avoid growling while lifting the weight... i find it helps me psyche myself up before and during the lifts.
The gym was pretty empty, another guy and this midle aged lady were in teh gym. After we had finished deadlfitng, the lady coems upto us and says,'you guys are making too much noise. You guys are making me feel intimidated. I felt like i was in a zoo.'
I don't think she believes in EAR PLUGS or headphones
WE couldn't stop however, since i cannot help but grunt once or twice while doing some heavy barbell rows.

Thats what you get for going to a comm. Centre gym. The people who go there think its a social club, they were clothes that went out of style in the 80's and do the typical circuit training.

i have gotten that a few times when i visit other guys when i am outta town, and i have my headphones in i dont realize how loud i am.
but my regular gym is a fairly hard core gym and everyone there knows me and they dont ever seem to mind. plus the members control the music, volume and song.

i have never trained at the ymca, but i heard it is super strict no loud music no grunting, and it is like a social event.

if you're grunting, than it means u're properly and fully breathing during your sets.. which is awesome..
Keep up the good work

well i would LIKE to say that my school's gym is much different... but its not as is reflected in this post
dropping the weights in the gym
its an article in teh school newspaper litereally complaining about us (there are only 8 of us who deadlift in the entire gym)

Tell the bitch to deadlift the weight your doing and if she can do it without screaming, you will. If she was really intimidated how the phuck did she walk up to you and open her pie hole? See man, you must be tiny..No one phucks with me at my gym.....

One good thing about a home gym.. dont have to deal with other people.
Plus i can look at porn between sets, and do my whole workout with a woody.

I told him to "teach your bitch some manners or keep her at home." I couldn't help it. I was 2 weeks out from show, hungry and exhausted with ZERO patience. Then the boyfriend started to say something back and I told him to keep his f ucking mouth shut! He shut up. They both went to complain to the manager and the manager said he saw was she did. She owes me an apology. She wouldn't apologize so he canceled her membership.Muscle Asylum Project Athlete

ok maybe im gonna get flamed here, but i think making grunting noises, screaming and all that is unnecessary. yes, i do heavy deadlifts, heavy squats, heavy bench, heavy rows, heavy lunges etc, but i very rarely grunt. ok usually on the first pick-up off the floor for deadlifts, when using my working weight, i may let out an odd noise then, but in general, apart from normal breathing, im quiet during training. i call it quiet intensity lol

who the fvck has the balls to come up and say that? Especially in a gym, are gyms supposed to be quiet? Its not like its a library, I dont think anyone would ever dare say that in my gym. I guess there are people that will complain about anything. Is there a no grunting sign in your gym?

i would have told that lady to fvck off.
It's a gym. I'd rather grunt and make noises than keep it all in and risk getting a hernia.

Well if she can give birth without screaming....
Next time just stare at her with a serial killer face.. straight look her in the eye.. bite down harder so she knows you're frustrated and just breath heavy and calm... That would have been good.
She wouldn't bother you again.
Or a simple "im going to kill you" smile would have done it.. but without nodding your head when you smile.....
oh so many things....

she had seen the company you were with, and try to obtain a judgment as to whether or not you were a safe person to confront. Only then would she speak her mind. Whats with the people these days? If you've got something on your mind, say it, don't be afraid ever. Why live on your knees when you can die on your feet.
