405 pnd lunges? Dumb?
I saw this dude with legs not much bigger than mine (about 25") doing lunges with 405. I was wincing thinking about his poor knees. You have to wonder though what's the point of doing lunges with 405? He'd walk out of the rack about 6 paces and then with 405 on his back, he'd turn around semicircle and head back toward the rack. This semicircular move didn't seem like a good idea either. Although I'm impressed with his strength, I concluded that there is no point in doing 405 lunges. Too risky don't you think? I think he was just showing off.

Yea that's risky IMO I'd never attempt that. I hold 80lb dumbbells at the end of my workouts, couldn't imagine 405.
How's his form Mike?-B D

I don't see any valid purpose for doing this, but whatever.

He does this dramatic looking knee to his chest as he steps forward. It's looks a bit like the Nazi marching cadence. When he goes into the lunge it's a little shallow. It still qualifies as a lung though. I think Coleman lunges with 350 but Coleman has 35" legs. If Coleman was using a weight relative to this dude, Coleman would probably be doing 600 pound lunges.

I couldnt imagine even attempting 405 lb lunges. ANd yes, I believe that is an injury waiting to happen.

Maybe he's a strength athlete.. or is doin sport-specific training?
I've watched some of my gym shot-putters do some pretty strange things... Never get injured.. and are continually getting stronger and bigger

He trains like a power/strength athlete. I see him doing...what do you call em?...cleans and overhead presses with 225 for reps. He's a personal trainer and of all of the Bally's PT's he's the only one that looks and behaves like a serious athlete. Pound for pound he's strong. He probably weighs about a lean 180 pounds and his legs actually look kind of skinny. His strenth must be mostly connective tissue and he has shorter limbs at about 5'6." He looks natural but with those kind of weights who knows. After the 405 lunges, he kind of limped away hunch back style for about 9 paces toward the waterfountain and then suddenly started walking upright and normal. It was like witnessing millions of years of evolution in 10 seconds - going from cromagnum man dragging his knuckles and humping his back and evolving into a straight standing homo sapien sapien right before my eyes! Quite a dramatic scene! He looked around quite a bit too - very vigilant to the surrounding spectators bearing witness to his primal feat. I was watching all of this from the eliptical trainer upstairs (I have a view of the floor below me) and the funny things is the 80's song "I wanna be a cowboy" came on. Humor aside, gotta give him credit for his commitment and strength.
This is a stark contrast to the other PTs who are either fat (one guy looks like he's got beer bloat and he needs a haircut) or skinny. The female PT's there have fat asses with and one has the old school full bloomer panty lines showing through her tights - not that I look for those things or anything. I'm thinking she's sporting the retro bushy triangle circa 1970.
The woman PT's act like they are on the prowel giving out the vibe and feeling it out. It's a meat market there in general. You just stare through them - they give you dirty looks for that but then they disapear. You know how that goes. Long Island girls are kind of tacky IMO. Too much time in the shoping malls and way too loud. Shut up and train! What are you going to do? Ooops! A little tangent going! This ECA thing makes me irritable I think.
