Are you a practising christian or just someone who says they are a christian 'cause they are from a "christian family"?

How can a practising christian not celebrate the resurrection of Christ? - It is kinda central to the whole thing

When Jesus came out of the tomb he saw a rabbit run by with chocolate eggs squirting out of his butt-henceforth easter. Happy Easter dammit.

Im a "practicing" Christian...how do you know that he rose on that day?...it doesnt say in the bible...are you going on the speculation of "historians"?...besides even if he did it doesnt say in the bible to celebrate his death/resurrection on easter...it says to do it on the first day of the week...every week...when we eat the bread and drink the cup in communion/remembrance

is this gonna get moved to the religion forum...I think USfighterFC meant this as a happy nationally recognized holiday...not religious...could be wrong

I figured someone was going to bring this up. Just because we dont know for sure what day it was doesnt mean we cant celebrate it once a year..just like Christmas.

So do you recognise good friday etc or do you have to be certain of the exact calender date of these events in order to celebrate them?

I dont celebrate any holiday religously...there we have covered the bases...I dont need to be certain of anything to celebrate a random holiday...I can celebrate thanksgiving anytime...being thankful I live in a "free" country etc...

I asked the question but I don't really have a clue about the different translations I just know that they vary considerably.

My father is a priest but I am not a christian, I love having theological arguments with him - the whole thing makes no sense to me whatsoever, it is completely without logic, Jesus died on the cross so that our sins could be forgiven - eh? by what mechanism does that work?

    Oh..gotcha...

well admitedly there are some parts where you have to have faith...but I would speculate that even if you could write out a scientific equation for Christianity...you would still have the same non-believers...BTW if youre dad is a catholic priest...him and I would have just as much to argue about as the two of you do

It's not a question of faith for me, when I was younger I knew there was no proof but I still believed, it's more that when I took a step back and looked at it the whole thing just doesn't make sense - it's hard for me to articulate exactly what I mean but one of the main issues for me is the idea that Jesus was crucified so that our sins may be forgiven - What?

My father is not Roman Catholic, if that is what you mean by catholic, he is "Church of England" or Protestant.

ohhhhhh...so are you saying you just dont get the concept?...under the old law they were to make sacrifices with their best animal to be forgiven of sins...(the jews)...but obviously the best animal wasnt good enough to keep cleansing sins...therefore Jesus became the perfect sacrifice...he never sinned...he bore all our sins on the cross...Now we hear the word, believe if that is what our studying has brought us to, repent, confess, and be baptized Acts 22:16

is that what you were asking?

The reason I asked was that "most" christians don't realize Easter is a pagan holiday celebrating the goddess of fertility I believe. It is actually supposed to be a day to celebrate Passover, not all this crap that mankind made up and distroyed the actual meaning.

    That's all.

Btw, Goodfriday is actually another name made up by man for passover. The actual day is thought to be on Thursday by some, but I'm really not trying to get in a debate, nor is this in the religion forum.

I dont know much about Judaism...Numbers 9:5 says they kept the passover on the 14th day of the first month....so take what you will from that...I think everyone knows that the passover isnt observed by Christians though...

I just find it disrespectful to honor false gods/goddess's.
It clearly states in the bible that our God is a jealous God and doesn't want us doing so. So why willingly go against his words.

Same as christmas is celebrated at the time that it is to take over a pagan festival, from what I understand it was just done that way so that people could turn to christianity but still keep some of their festivals/holidays at the same time, I don't think it is overly important that these things are celebrated on the exact same calender date as they occurred, just that they are recognised.
