I think I may have to try valerian root...the thing with most sleep help ie melatonin is that I go to sleep at the same time I would have anyway...except Im either super tired in the morning or cant wake up at all

I'm told to clear my head in order to help me sleep. You have ADHD as well and although i would love to blame the ridalin for my sleep issues, i have had them my entire life, even when i didn't take it.

I have seen a neoroligist and gone for sleep studies and They come up inconclusive.

my ex used to take antripileen (wrong spelling i no) and also used Trazidone. Only problem is that you eventualy become depentant on them and if you want to stop takin gthem you can never get to sleep cos your body is so used to them.

When I cant sleep i just get out of bed and read for half an hour. I find it breaks the loop of lieing there just thinking of crap.

seriously...as long as I can remember...I come from a poor home so I was always sharing a room with one of my brothers...I remember being about 6yrs old and seeing how fast my older brother went to sleep...I remember thinking that when I get older I will be able to sleep...but then I got older and shared a room with my little brother and the roles were reversed...I remember I couldnt stop thinking about stuff...some of the stuff would really scare me and still does to this day...such as death and how it is forever

    Sound like anxiety hun..

There is something called sleep anxiety.

during the day when people are around, this kinda stuff probably goes to the back of your mind, but when your alone at night and there isn't anyone around to talk to, it comes to the surface.

A lot of doctors will suggest going on anti-depressants. Personally i am not a fan of this diagnosis. (I ain't a doctor)

A bandaid solution - meaning something that is not permanent is to take anti anxiety meds. Clomazapam, Lorazapam and there is also a lighter one called Buspar. One down fall, these are addictive.

These drugs can be loosely classified into benzodiazepine (valium-like) and non-benzodiazepine categories.
Benzodiazepines: Benzodiazepines have “anxiolytic” (reduce anxiety), sedative, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant properties, hence have wide usage in psychiatry and medicine. These drugs largely replaced older agents like barbiturates and synthetic barbiturates for sedation and treatment of anxiety because they have better safety profiles and lower likelihood for dependence, although they are still associated with physiological dependence - (i.e. risk of significant withdrawal syndromes). As such, the use of barbiturates and synthetic barbiturates like meprobamate (Miltown) is today considered irrational and unnecessarily dangerous, hence modern clinicians simply do not prescribe such agents anymore (except in a highly unusual circumstance). There are many benzodiazepines on the market today that are distinguished by potency, ease/route of administration, and pharmacological properties (e.g. time from ingestion until effect, duration of effect, time to metabolism, presence/number of active metabolites). Differences in chemical properties of benzodiazepines coupled with aging-related bodily changes render some benzodiazepines more or less appropriate for use in the elderly. All benzodiazepines share anxiolytic and sedative properties and dose-dependent side effects such as fatigue, drowsiness, impairment of memory and recall, motor incoordination, and other cognitive changes. As noted above, although risk of development of physiological dependence is less than with barbiturates, dependence does occur. As such, discontinuation – especially with shorter-acting agents – must be cautiously conducted in order to avoid discontinuation symptoms, including seizures. Benzodiazepines are usefully prescribed either as a primary or adjunctive treatment in a variety of conditions including anxiety disorders, phobias, panic disorder, insomnia, alcohol withdrawal, and transient agitated conditions, including psychosis.

    flurazepam
    midazolam
    quazepam
    estazolam
    triazolam

Non-benzodiazepine anxiolytics (anti-anxiety medication): As noted above, SSRIs and other anti-depressants have been demonstrated to be efficacious “first-line” agents for the treatment of anxiety disorders, including panic attacks and panic disorder ( SSRIs, cyclic antidepressants, MAO inhibitors, venlafaxine, and nefazodone); obsessive-compulsive disorder (SSRI, clomipramine); generalized anxiety disorder (venlafaxine); and social phobia (SSRIs, MAO inhibitors). Buspar (buspirone) is not an anti-depressant, but is a non-benzodiazepine anxiolytic with a lag time of about 5 weeks before it is effective and questionable efficacy. Side effects are limited.

    Trade Name Generic Name
    Buspar buspirone

Non-benzodiazepine hypnotics (sleeping pills): Zolpidem and Zaleplon are relatively new, with a quick onset of action and a short half-life (time effective in the body). They have a more favorable side effect profile than benzodiazepine hypnotics and are now often the first-line sleeping pills prescribed. An older, barbiturate-like medication with minimal abuse potential, chloral hydrate, is still prescribed by some physicians as an effective hypnotic alternative.

    Ambien
    Sonata zolpidem
    zaleplon
    chloral hydrate

i generally do fine, but i get sleep anxiety quite often. it has only gotten worse with my college education coming to a close and some other issues. Ive just been taking melatonin, but if I dont get to sleep within like the first 45min of taking it I have even more issues.

When I was younger I had real trouble sleeping, I could literally go 3 or 4 nights with no sleep, what fixed it for me was simple - I got a TV in my room and would leave it on as I got my head down, usually something like repeats on the comedy channel, this is ideal as you want something that is lighthearted - no point trying to get to sleep listening to something gruesome or depressing, also there is little chance of sudden loud explosions etc, you have to find something which is not too rivetting or it may keep you awake, equally you do not want something of no interest to you as it will just annoy you as you try to drift off.
I know this seems a bit too easy but it really did work for me.

Do you think it's something in the guy's semen that helps you nod off or the satisfaction that you got him off?

i get sleep anxiety quite often
over the counter sleep aids help me sometimes, but unless i get 8-9 hours i'm usually dragging ass the next day

one thing that sometimes works is instead of lieing in bed with your eyes closed, keep your eyes open while your mind is racing....it usually takes awhile to finally fall asleep, but in my experience it is still faster than laying there with your eyes closed

i have been diagnosed with sleep anxiety and they gave me xanax...didnt' really help much but my body never really does well with meds.

Melatonin helped a little but honestly the only way i can go to sleep is to put music on...but something you don't know the words to...I sleep to requim mass by mozart...

then again my average night of sleep is 4 -5 hours so i may not be the best source

There is no such word. If you want to insult me at least get the word right. You loose the effect when spelled incorectly 3 times.
