I am obese!.
Yup. According to the army medical corp (Irish army) I'm obese.
It doesn't matter that I pass my annual fitness test (its the same one the US military uses), doesn't matter that I pass my BMI (using the calipers) but at 260lbs and at the last measurement (just before christmas) I was 17% BF I'm considered OBESE!.
The Doc told me to drop below 200lbs, lol..
A question for the big guys here. Have you ever tried to lose muscle size?
I tried explaining the difficulties of this to the doctor, but it was lost on him.
Oh yea, I also pointed out that I represent my command on the army Judo team too!.
Yup, I'm a fat bastard!.

They give you a hard time like this, yet last night when I was at a convienence store all 7 cops in my town were in there, drinking there calorie loaded coffe and shuving donuts down their faces. Now those fat slobs are the ones who should be told to lose weight. I dont think they could even chase down a parapalegic purse snatcher...

His reply!... "Stop lifting weights", lol.

Those height/weight/age charts are full of shit. You can be 5'10", 170 pounds of pure unadulterated goofat and be considered "fit". But try being the same height, and 220 pounds with 13% bf and you are overweight. Bunch of bs.

those standard ways to measure health are retarded.
http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/...calculator.htm
according to that stupid thing im overweight (6', 210lbs). it doesnt take into account a number of variables. you can be my height and weight and be in awesome shape or a fat mess. so dumb. cant wait for insurance companies to use it......

At least in the U S if you pass below 21% BF you don't get flagged and are still eligible for promotion. And on the Weight lifting team, these guys are huge!

I agree that the charts that tell you what you should weight based on your height are dumb as shit, they do not take into account muscle mass etc..

LOL, a buddy of mine was a paratrooper & pushed wieght/juiced, he was like 230-40 lbs and they told him he was technically obese as well.
there's this guy Warrant Langtang, the dude is a chain smoker, drinks alot, and has a beer gut - and it's absolutley effortless for him to run a marathon (42 k run) - i've always been amazed at guys who look out of shape cosmetically and are actually in ridiculously good condition

They want you to look like a "Soldier" the ideal size is 5'10 and 160lbs.
But ya, I would agree if you can do the job, pass the test who cares if your purple, fat or 10 foot tall.

At my height 5'7" I'm only supposed to weigh in the 150's....... I'm 195 lbs and no where near fat. This screws me up with insurance and crap like that.

yep, while i was in they had the "Fat Boy" program.. but then we went and got waivers from the doc's..
the size of your wrist determined what weight class you should be in....
if you can touch your finger (ring) with your thumb, you were of medium build, gap = large build
at any rate, it only allowed for 10 additional lbs..The answer to your every question

My blood work came back great, my ekg was perfect, but becaue I am heavier for my height, they want to charge me more. I laughed and asked if they had any clue?? I told them I am a bodybuilder, and that my bodyfat is probably lower than most, and they said that didn't matter. It is just a numbers game to them

Isnt Obesity a disability, you wanna look in to it, you might be able to get hand outs from the govornemt and one of those gimp badges for your car so you wont get parking tickets.

But getting back to the point. I train everyday, somedays twice (When I'm training for a competition I train twice daily five days a week), as I said, I represent my command on the army Judo team and get a grade 1 in my annual fitness tests and because I carry muscle mass, I'm considered obese!.
I guess I'd get more thanks if I smoked twenty a day, drank everynight in front of the TV and weighted 180lbs soaking wet.

a friend of mine was was trying to get in the fire brigade and he failed the step test twice due to a rapid heart beat.
stupid thing is they said he wasnt fit enough, the guy is a footballer, plays for one of the best teams in the welsh premier league.
hes a shed load fitter than 90% of the firemen i work with
