this is an old idea...lots of people do this. If you were really paranoid and wanted security, there are other ways to keep your privacy but it requires some computer literacy. I mean there are free proxies that you can bounce around with, you have spoofing, lots of other stuff. But seriously, I don't see w hat's to be paranoid about. People can get more information off of you with your social security number than with your computer. And most ISP's as well as the gov't don't have time to go through millions of logs.

I agree with Zimmy, It's a little overboard to be honest. Unless you are going to sites that are completely illegal and grounds for prosecution, I wouldn't worry about it. Using proxies will give you some anonymity but I'd be worried about what's actually on your hard drive IF I worried about anything.

Try sugar water on your harddrive, works just as well from what I hear without all the smoke+flames.

Just order it through a public computer. (work or school) I use to use Ghostsurf but it slowed my computer by much I dont need it anymore. Therefore NSA and homeland security: GO FACK YASELF!

How about Get a place next to a Starbucks for instance. or some other coffee shop that has a WI-FI setup.
Just as long as your dont have the thermal insulation tiles with foil backing in hte cavity of the walls.
This would potentially make the rooms a Faraday cage making electrical signals weather being sent or recieved from the appartment very difficult to recieve.
Just as long as this was not a problem you could surf without ever leaving home.
The authorities would know some one is ordering juice from Starbucks but as you have hacked their network they could never trace it to you.
The main reason to do this would be becasue the WI-FI in Starbucks would be used for the public who go there so it would be easier to hack rather than some Chiniese student living in the room down the hall.
Saying all this tho hacking is not as easy as it sounds, i have a bid of knowledge on Networking as i am studying it but i have played with hacking Wi-Fi networks in the appartments surrounding mine and its not as easy as it sounds.
I havent succeeded yet, but all i have told you is all i have picked up in trying to find out how to infultrate a Wi-Fi network.
all i can say to you is best of luck mate.

ISP's do what is called cache'ing on their servers to reduce the need for calls out of their network. So essentially your requests are logged on their network before it even goes out other AS intranets.

It will probably help you sleep better at night but in the long run I agree with the consensus, if they want you they will get you. Hell we just bombed the shit out of Zarquiway (sp) and they are pulling tons of info off the lap top that was in the building...they called it a treasure trove of info..lololol..if they can pull that off a decimated lap top I think you're screwed if they want you! lolol

Using public proxies is not good idea if safety is your main concern. There are methods to extract information about the originator IP from public proxies and the amount of information depends on the proxy. Also, most importantly, you don't know who is operating these public proxies!!!
Using private proxy is good idea if you can do because you can configure it such that it will always provide false information. The other option is to hide your IP address completely so that it will appear something like: ???.???.???.???. Both methods require some knowledge in networking.

Using the Proxy server would be pretty anonymous, also using WI-FI hotspots would keep you anonymous. I've been involved in investiagtions where computer forensics were used, your main concern should be what is on your HD, its true they can log your activity from your ISP side, but it takes alot of work and there is no gaurantee to them your not connecting from different ISP's.
Your HD tells everything, even things that have been deleted for months can be potentially recovered. Even if you spill water on your HD that would only kill the electronic parts, they can still remove the platers and remove data from it.
There are programs available that can wipe your HD clean to a state where data cannot be recovered. Look for software which is compliant with
Department of Defence 5200.28-STD. That is the standard the government uses to ensure their HD's are clean.. If its good enough for the DoD, CIA, NSA, FBI etc.. it should be good enough for anyone.
bcwipe is one free program i've used, and it seemed to work pretty well.
