you know how companies try to sell their product in all different countries? sometimes they screw up the spelling on thier ads. coors for example tried to market their beer in mexico and majorly fu_ked up when they had their slogan as "coors light: suffer from diarrhea"

there was some other company that screwed up the spelling in their product they were tryin to sell in asia somewhere. they had "bring your ancestors back from the dead" as their slogan. apparently, people in asia are pretty sensitive when it comes to their ancestors... needless to say, they didn't sell much product there

Boy this reminds me of Buiss school. We learned a lot of examples like the former. That is why managers have to go through culture training, learning and sensitivity. Ah yes....In Africa(soemwhere) spitting on one's shoe is how you greet them. In some cultures talking while eating is normal ambience in others its disrespectful. In some you must take shoes off prior to entering(M.E and Asia). When you refuse food from others you will cause a riot, oh yes refuse someones hand cooked meal and you will be cursed, I can attest to that. Et cetera

it's called bad marketing and product research.

Alot of companies have different names in different countries for products for this exact reason.

Toyota for example;

Yaris in Europe and was Echo in NA, now it's Yaris.. but another story...and in Japan it's called Yitz
