Math Dilemma, are you smart enough?
ok here is the question:
3 guys walk into a store, let's say a cell phone store, and they like a phone, the salesman says it's $30. so every one of the 3 guys paid $10.
they walk out , but as soon as they walk out the manager said to the salesman that's too much, you have over charged the guys, and he gives him $5 to give back to the guys. the salesman walks out to the 3 guys cars and returns to each one $1 (one dollar) and pockets $2 (two dollars).
so that makes it like that:each guy originally paid $10 - $1 = $9 each guy paid, right? total of 3 x 9 = $27 and the salesman pocketed $2 so the total is $27 + $2 = $29
where is the missing dollar??? i challenge anyone for this, and no BS if you gonna challenge to solve it, i bid you $1000 (one thousand dollars).

i think - i might be wrong but dont you have to take the $2 out first before taking out the $3 dollars. The problem is the order.. you take out 2 = 28 /3 = idk wtf im talkn about..

so the total is $30 but the manager wants to give them $5 back. $30 - $5 is $25. the salesman gives them each $1 back, so $25 plus $3 is $28. he then keeps $2. $28 + $2 = $30. the way you word it is a trick. right?

you start at the phone was $25 not $30. You have to deduct 3 that the sales guy took back...then add the 2 he took?????

"ok smart guy wanna play? let's go
30-2 in the salesman pocket = 28
divide that by 3, somebody paid more than 9
but in the orignal problem every one of the 3 guys paid 10 and agot a dollar back which makes it 9 dollars per guy x 3 =27
WHERE IS THE DOLLLLLAAAAAAAR"
and hey smoke, dont get mad just cuz you couldn't figure it out. no big deal. i understand the riddle makes it sound like a dollar is missing, but it is a riddle for a reason.
-
06-09-2006, 10:34 PM #39
the missn dollar is in the .33 cents x 3 that accounts for the decimal of 25/3 = 8.33
