go to add / remove programs....and take everything off. And then go through and delete every folder on C: that isn't windows, program files, and/ or documents and settings. Then clear your cache and temporary internet files and offline files. Should be pretty close to clean then. I'd recommend formating and just tossing a fresh copy of xp on it personally.

    http://www.download.com/3000-2092-10188745.html

Then reload your OS and drivers

Programs like that are a must, they'll get rid of everything withough having to worry.

I'd just format, and then reinstall the OS.

doing a uninstall or even a format dosent do s**t. You can recover nearly 95% of files after a format some people have even been able to recover a OS to a bootabe state after a format using "special" progs.... elegedly....I for one have never seen it done but I have recovered files after a format lots of times.
There are programs that delete, then write over, delete, then write over again to make sure the data is totaly gone but I duno what the are called. Try a google search. Thats the only way to be sure the data is totaly gone. Other than taking a hammer to the drive. lol.

There are programs that can fill an entire drive with information that consists of 0 and 1's. Then after the whole thing is swiped and written over with blank information, then reinstall windows.

I think you have to remove your hard drive and then trash it.

There are programs that "write 0's" to the drive which takes forever depending on the size of your hard drive. There is no way to recover information when you do that. Or you can do it the old fashioned way with a really heavy duty magnet
