To think that some other life forms don't exist elsewhere is crazy.
I am willing to bet there are even people/species light years ahead of us.

Most certainly, I just always like to look ahead I guess.
I wasn't assuming that all other forms were indeed ahead, I was saying that to think that some are not is inconclusive.
That is why I said willing to bet "there are even", which implies "some" out of "many".
Yeah, English major in me.

we are also forgetting about density
there are some denser stars and planets out there... about the size of earth... but maybe the mass of the sun or more
and dont forget neutron stars and black holes
damn i love this stuff

Damn thats massive
-
06-24-2006, 05:04 PM #24
The universe is massive. Its also expanding. A science teacher explained it like this. "Picture a loaf of bread in the oven with raisins throughout. When the bread expands the raisins grow further away from each other. The same thing is happenining in our universe. The planets, like raisins are growing further apart."
The really cool thing is dark matter. Think about it, if our universe is not a set size what is it expanding into, where can it go, and what do we know about this space that it is constantly expanding into? Not much, scientists can't identify the properties and simply dub it dark matter.

Fascinating...damn.

One day they will find proof of life on one of those.
-
06-24-2006, 06:42 PM #27
that is pretty cool, but i still cant comprehend the fact that the universe is infinite...

How far away are those other planets/moons? How can they possibly find the correct scale for those?

A light year is the distance that light travels in a year about 6 trillion miles our nearest neighbor galaxy is andromeda itself2 million light years away, now thats along way,and to imagine there are roughly 100million observable galaxies each containing billions of stars,to say we are alone is incorrect imho, not that you did.
@tai its no good if uranus is bigger than your.....you get it.Last edited by helium3; 06-25-2006 at 06:27 AM.
