I'm having a hard time trying to think of someone I personly like better than Pantara.......a real hard time.
I like a lot of other particular songs from other bands (System of a Down, etc)
I really like alot of the old Metallica, pretty much everything up to and including the Black album.

I'll have to check out Meshugga and Manowar.

No real order except the first few

    1. Black Sabbath(started it all, not to mention originators of doom metal as well and brought the NWOBHM scene to America)
    2. Judas priest(Traditional metal lead influence for power metal)
    3. Iron Maiden(influence older traditional bands and early power metal)
    4. Metallica(thrash, before selling out)
    5. Pantera(influenced modern metal today and most metalcore bands today)
    6. Slayer(thrash/death)
    7. Death(innovators of death(possessed was the first death band but Death made it a success)
    8. Carcass or Napalm Death(birth of grindcore)
    9. Cannibal corpse(death/gore metal)
    10. Mayhem, possibly Venom(black metal)
    11. Helloween(true power metal)
    12. Fates Warning(progressive)

    Extra:
    (13. sick of it all, Agnostic front, Leeway) all innovators of hardcore which was derived from punk but hardcore is huge today also Hatebreed is the top notch in Hardcore today)

These 13 or so bands (Excluding misnomers such as Nu-Metal(Korn) and Hair/Glam metal(Motley Crue) which have their place in metal history, but just for the sake of argument we'll leave them out) have got to be the best b/c they make up about 95% if not 100 % of style influences of metal today or in the past. Now there are a few genres left out like gothic or Industrial all have history but its these bands success that makes the metal world today

When you say heavy metal do you mean traditional metal like Maiden b/c all of those bands can be put in the metal genre. Deftones and Tool could be under hard rock but they are respected in the metal communtiy

If you think it takes more talent to make a "heavy metal" song then you are absolutely retarded.

    eh i dissagree.....

i grew up with hip hop, rap wtvr, i also was around spanish music,

i had to explore heavy metal, rock, alternativer rap metal for itss talent....

e mean, I ****ING hate that shit on tv...its SUX BALLS!!!!!!! wtf is that??? media puts what it needs for those MTV heads...thats not rap, thats like franchise propaganda n shit...

there is some real poetic rappers, hip hop artists that spead important shit that no music station would play

    n thats talent...

BUT OVERALL, DEFTONES AND HED PE, AND NONPOINT ****IN ROCK!!!!!!!!

n they also began as "rap" metal artists....

    got to say Pantera.
metallica a close second but it wasnt heavy enough to be called heavy metal master of puppets rocked though, sanatarium was awesome.

Phil and the boys kicked ass in the 90's far beyond driven n the great southern trendkill proved that
