    Speeding Ticket (Canada)

Okay so I got a speeding ticket the other day. It's the first one I've ever gotten, and I've been driving for almost 8 full years now. Main question, this being my ONLY ticket (for about 25KM over the speed limit), will it affect my insurance?

I have heard you can have up to 2 claims (on your car) without your insurance going up, so I assume same with ticket? Are you like, allowed a certain number without your insurance going up?!

I'm in Ontario, and my insurance company is State Farm. Any input would help, thnx. And remember, this is Canada, not U.S., since most of you live there, there is probably some differences.

    Thnx,
    T.

In MB, if you have full merits, for your first ticket, you pay a fine on top of the ticket of roughly $200.00 but keep your merits, and your insurance doesn't go up. If you have another ticket in the next few years then you loose your merits, and your insurance rate changes.

I'm not sure what it is in ON, but that's MB's way.

i didnt know that 25 km over sped limit has any demerit points?

i thought if only it was 30 and over

when you fight either you can show up in court and hope the cop doesnt show up, or call X copper

someone told me (i dont know for sure) that for such small infractions you can easily ask the cop for some maintenance type of sheet on the radar. I think the cop has to do check it out at the beginning of the day. Some cops neglect to do this.

whens yuor case? If you have enough time you can request the officers notes from the courts,

also if your court date is not within a reasonable tiem from offense, you can say it's agaisnt your constitutional rights.

    Ontario?? is that in France???

    jk...

in the states, it depends on when the insurance company checks your driving record.. usually 1x per year, or when you have a change in your car insurance..

I know i do have 2 points on my license right now, but it's from a ticket i got while working (drive a concrete truck) i got caught driving off a truck route and truck enforcement nabbed me and gave a fine and when i went to court i lost and got 2 points. A couple of years back i had a bunch of tickets for speeding, red lights and my insurance dropped me because i crashed into a parked car one morning coming home from a club in nyc plus a bunch of other things. I have this women lawyer who really is the best, she saved me from getting my license suspended many times. My insurance was through the roof! At the time of all this insanity i was applying for a job at a new company and when the boss ran my license he came to me and said, HOW THE FVCK DO YOU HAVE 22 POINTS ON YOUR LICENSE AND IT'S NOT SUSPENDED...HE COULDNT BELEIVE IT!!

I guess I should have been a bit more specific. There were NO demerit points taken off, it's just a ticket for a little over $100 bux. X Copper charges $300 dollars and UP for any cases (so it's usually just used for the very serious ones like DUI and other stuff like that). Paying the fine is no real biggy, I can handle that, I'm just worried about the insurance aspect of it.

I was thinking of fighting it, but don't really know what kind of excuses I can use, he had me on radar, going 26KM over the limit.

Yeah but think about it - if you dont fight the ticket and insurance does go up, you will pay at least $300 a YEAR on insurance for at least 3 years. So paying $300 and beating the ticket will pay for itself in the long run.

Well I guess that's why I wanted to know how much the insurance would be affected. Is there any way of finding that out, without directly asking the insurance? Obviously I don't want to draw attention to myself and the ticket, like red flagging myself, LOL!

Another problem is it happened in another city, so it would be a pain in the ass to go all the way there for court appointments, and also I heard if you fight it, it's like an ACTUAL court, with the cop as a witness too and you do cross-examination crap and they have a counsellor on the behalf of the cop, etc...etc... sounds too ****ing confusing and complex
