I was on a business forum and this guy said it was illegal to put your own gas in these states. Is this true? Can anyone from these states chime in?

tis true
Why?
I wish it was illegal in Toronto
whaat? Illegal to pump your own gas? Do you guys have like attendants or something do it for you? I want someone to pump my gas for me..
I didn't believe the guy at first, but he swears he bought a gas station and could'nt cut payroll because he needed them to pump gas. Wouldn't it be a pain in the ass to get gas late at night or during busy times?
Wouldn't you have to tip them too? that would add up, plus gas has to cost more due to labor.
yeah thats what im thinking. There is NO WAY in hell I would tip someone pumping my gas..I would rather do it myself and gas is $3 a gallon. If their $ was made off tips..Id think about it.Originally Posted by goodcents
Anyone from these states that can chime in? Seems odd to us, but maybe it's like the whole "bagged milk" thing that was talked about awhile back, it probably makes sense?
I've heard of it too.
I just wish that gas stations had better shelters, so that the cold wind and snow don't abuse you in the winter.
It would be sweet if you could drive into a garage, and pump your gas, that way you are not outside.
Yeah that's what we have in jersey and they fukin idiots to.Originally Posted by chest6
No,no tipping just don't let them go under your hood there not pumping gas cause there brain surgens just be cool and curteios, they know there job suks.Originally Posted by goodcents
God forbid you spend 4 minutes outside filling your tank up. Sounds like severe torture, right?Originally Posted by cfiler
Besides that.. Filling up gas indoors(in a garage) is a great way to get suffocated.
Im in jersey i pump my gas.
My fu-cking truck and i will pump my own fuel.
it isnt a law but there r gas attendants that do it for u
sounds like a good way to die to meOriginally Posted by cfiler

There is a law in NJ. Your not going to get a ticket if you do it yourself.
There are attendants there to do it for you.
I like it better for a few reasons. If your paying cash you just pay when your done. No pre pay bull shit. Also I can sit in my car when its raining or crappy out. If its late a night or a crapy area my fiance can sit the car locked she doesnt have to get out of the car when it might not be safe.
You dont tip them. Gas is cheaper in NJ then Pa and they pump it
Your not in a garage. He meant your not outside. Your still sitting in your car.Originally Posted by rake922

yea its a law...and i have never tipped a gas attendant a single time in my life.....my buddy use to pump gas an appearently there are people who tip but i've never done it...I dont know who would complain about not having to pump gas themselves, especially if you're in a nice suit and dont feel like handling the gas cap and maybe dripping gas on your shoes or something...its got a lot more advantages i dont see many advantages with self-serve...
ROFL so if Im on my bike, they have to pump it for me??
LOL me being me, Id look them in the eye and say "mmm pump it baby....pump it good in there....yeahhh....."
Damn thats one stupid ass law.
Yeah Im from Oregon and thats the way it is, then I moved to Idaho and forgot and sat at a gas statioion for like 15 minutes gettin all pissed before IU remembered that I needed to do it, either way doesn't bother me as long as I can remember and not be retarded like last time
I second that... My Truck, my money and now its my gas...Originally Posted by gsxxr
yhea bro i live in nj and never in my life have i pumped my own gas
certain "snotty" towns here on long island have attendants only also.A while back some jackhols drove a away with the handle still in his tank & blew the place to hell(before the safety system) so now they ONLY have attendants & it costs us at least .30cents more per gallon for those dumbasses.
I didn't learn how to drive till i was 24 - the first time i tried to pump my own gas - it was pretty funny.
The new pumps are simple, but the old pumps that they had 6 years ago at some stations - were.. well i had no idea how to do it.. I actually had to drive to another gas station because i didn't want to ask how to use it and appear stupid or pirncess like ..haha

In my state we have a CHoice either "SELF" or "FULL" service..
The FULL service one has attendants and the gas costs about 15-20 cents more..
SO SCREW THAT>.
I do it SELF>. or go to a small brand gas station that sells FULL at SELF price as their niche in the market.
I don't even see full service stations around me anymore, when I was a kid they were everywhere. I'm just use to pumping my own gas, don't see how much longer these laws could last. (I still remember the old "no beer on sunday" law they got rid of)
The "no beer on Sunday" law is still valid in my state!
As for the gas stations, they all are full service in Oregon because the unemployment rate is very high.
Somebody should go through the law books and weed out alot of these old laws. Too many regulations that only hamper things.
so basically its a state imposed tax, to try n spread the wealth.Originally Posted by Alex2
to make it more fair they should prolly impose brackets.. u know...
depending on what type of vehicle u drive, this is how much u pay for gas..
U know.. u'd have HONDA CIVIC drivers paying 3$ a gallon.
Escalade drivers paying $5 a gallon
and ferrari drivers paying $8 a gallon LMAO
Its not a extra fee in NJ. Gas in NJ is cheaper then Ny and Pa and they are self service.Originally Posted by Pooks
So if you have a more expensive car you should pay more? Oh thats fair![]()
