    computer broken??

so I plug my computer in to check and see whats all on it before I head down to school and all that happens is the monitor stays black but the tower's little orange light indicating the powers on but nothing. And the only way it'll shut off is by unpluging it you can't hold the power button in and shut it off. Anyone have this problem?

the power light should be green on the tower if it's running. Generally - if you power on the PC and get lights, but no action (fans spinning, hard drive spinning etc) there is a good chance its your motherboard. A faulty power supply prevents any lights from turning on period usually.

Yeah I was meaning to add the beep code in there as well, so my suggestion wouldnt make him forget about yours...lol.

Typically when a video card goes out, the screen stays blank, but the light on the tower is still green because everything inside is still running, the machine POSTS etc etc....just you cant see it

well first thanks for your insights guys appreciate it. Heres the deal the monitor has this box on it that says monitor good check power supply blah blah. Now the green light is just orange and dose nothing and there was a rattling sound, it sounded like something was stuck in the cd-rom drive trying to open but wasn't a few nights ago( the last night I turned it off)

i'm guessing motherboard from the sound but just to be sure...plug your computer directly into the wall / not power strip and see if it still has problems.
