I was looking to buy some underdrive pulleys for my 98 mustang, but someone told me it was a bad idea to put them on a 4v because it doesnt work well with the balancer. Anyone have any opinions?

We used to do it all the time. Was never a problem
It would give you a little more power....I'd say around 10hp. Decreasing pulley size really gives power to cars that are s/c.Originally Posted by JDawg1536

I'll buy a dodge quad cab SRT-10.....oh that would be hot!!
Yeah I got caught racing in the county that gives out the stiffest punishments in the country. The cop was gonna take me in but I made up a bs excuse. He ran my liscense and I had a clean record so he didnt arrest me, but I got a reckless driving. $750 fine, 40 hours community service, and lost my liscense for a month.Originally Posted by Beefyman

fvck bro, thats one crazy ass ride!!!
why not just go with a lightweight pulley instead of an underdriven pulley... if it doesnt mess with the harmonic dampener, lightweight pulleys tend to cause other issues. some common problems are low/funky idle, dimming lights. not everyone gets these problems tho. you could have 2 of the same car and one will have the issues the other wont.
We used to install a set a day on Cobra at our shop, Never had a problem. Go For It. I have a Mustang For Sale if you know anyone looking!
UDP's are always good. i've heard they arnt too useful for the 2v 99-01 engines, but I havnt heard anything about yours. for the price, its worth the gains
i dont understand how you couldnt 'free up' HP your reducing the amount of drag on the engine...technically your nto adding HP your freeing up HP thats already there but being sidetracked...same as with A/C superchargers spin more freely than the a/c..and guys are always saying S/Cs are harsh with the restriction they cause...try running your air in a race
in a week or 2 ill be getting my FR500 heads with FR500 valvetrain..here comes an extra 50-70HP!!!![]()
I used March pulleys on my 5.0L back in the day. It really helped. Definately look into getting ones that's lighter. The belts that come with the kits usually suck. I love the Goodyear gattorbacks. Best belt I've ever installed on any of my cars over the years.
I gained power throughout the whole powerband, no peaks, just a nice fat curve.![]()
That depends. By decreasing the size of the crank pulley, you lower the amount of boost. By increasing the size of the crank pulley (overdrive pulley) the supercharger would decrease boost pressure.Originally Posted by audis4
A small supercharger pulley to crank pulley is what you should be looking for. That would increase boost pressure.
Lighter pulleys would yield the most streetable gain. By reducing the mass of the pulleys, you allow the motor to turn them easier.
In a supercharged vehicle pulley size needs to be closely examined to ensure that proper boost pressure would still be produced, or an increased boost pressure would be created by changing the pulleys.
I had a small ass pulley on my s/c. My r-trim could hold 14lbs of boost
yea and any trim above s-trims arnt your everyday s/c usually your ED driveable car runs the s-trims, when you start getting to the t-trims, f-trims, g-trims, ysi-trims and such your looking as power and that requires a built motor...if you want it to lastOriginally Posted by gixxerboy1
do they even make r-trims?

I think Im gonna sell it. Cant afford gas, insurance, and car payment on military pay. Trying to save money to buy a house and make some investments. Its gonna be hard to part with.....![]()
They used to. I've been out of it for a while. It used to be a,b,s and r trimOriginally Posted by aadrenaline
