What do you mean by top kicking a$$?

I box, and I have a fair amount of knowledge in jiu jitsu, in street fights I use both - you're rarely be able to use your legs in the street though - although muay thai matches are brutal!

Most fights in the street start with the guy rushing you, coming close, so you try and lay a few hooks or upercuts since he's close, and then you'll probably go to the ground, where the wrestling/jiu j helps!

Plus muay t teaches you how to throw elbows which I imagine is very helpfull....

What I meant is pretty much like you stated. Street fights.

Which would be best to train in, for example, if you got into a street fight.

My buddy said MMA, cuz its the "street" fighting.

Others say boxing cuz thats bascially all you use in real fights.

and my 1 ninja friend said thai cuz its all out brutality, even though I thought myself that kicking would be pointless in a street fight., but then again, its not all kicking.

Im about to pick on up, and just wnated ev1's advice and inputs.

Well, yeah boxing is good...i think mma might be better if they teach you good technique and basic ground skills, with pounding someone on the ground....I guess i'd go with mma....and kicking would deff be pointless in a street fight unless you're REALLY good at it, 'xcept low kicks maybe

When you take MMA training just at a local place, do you train in all areas like boxing, kickboxing, karate, ji jitsu, and such?

Or does one just take those all by themselves and puts them together to form MMA?

SOmeone has to know or train in it here.

    Thanks.

You gotta have the heart of an animal too! I know some great Martial Arts technician types that just don't have the heart or stomach for the street. Seems that ya just can't teach that. Either you have it or you don't.

Muay is best stand up style imo notihng else compares
and on the street most fights goto the ground which sucks kuz i hate grapple

BUTT u dont wanna goto the ground if there is more than one person kuz thats when u get STOMPED or kicked while ur on the ground soo

Muay > when facing 2 or More ninja's on street
BJJ > when facing 1 uber ninja!

mix em and learn the fireball and hwo to throw shurikens! then ur a beast!

btw i have been boxing since i was six
starts Muay when i was 12
and bjj when i turned 14

competed under the USMTA many many years ago and did VERY WELL
then did a few shootfights which were fun and some MMA shit but
TRUE MUAY THAI boxing matches are by far the MOST FUN I HAVE EVER HAD GOD I MISS THAT SHIT FLASHbACKS are so depressing man i used to be a stud before i got fat and 3 concussions

You wanna learn how to street fight?? get into alot of fights.

A tamer solution? get some of ur bigger, tougher friends and put some gloves and mouthpieces and maybe headgear(I dont) and just keep fvcking hitting till someone goes down.

It's always fun and you dont get arrested

In street fights, the only rule is that there are no rules.

Thats the truth. Ive been involved in boxing, muay thai, and a little grappling. I thought MMA was the shit before coming into the military. Eyes, throat, arteries, nerves, nuts, joints, etc.... If you wanna **** someone up big time, you gotta learn all that shit. What good is an uber ninja cage fighter when his shoulder is dislocated, wrist is snapped, and he has a sharp pain in his nutsack?

I figured I will just take boxing and BJJ.

Im not too big on kicking and that takes forever to get down.

Im sure ill be pretty good with those 2, plus private lessons, and gun lessons.

Very, very true. i don't care how much training you have, if you don;t have the killer instinct to USE it against some angry mofo trying to beat your ass, you're gonna get hurt, maybe very badly.

Save all the MMA for situations where you are being attacked. The best defense? Don't get into fights...

Well if you'll be walking around with a gun you don't need boxing or BJJ

that's because they are both seriosuly elite fighters. if you are skilled in MMA and the other loser isn't. you can strike his ass, take him to the ground and pound his goofy ass. learn to strike, and then learn to grapple. experience will teach you how to combine both. works like a charm.

Try some of that "hugging" on the ground and see just how affective it can be. P.S. don't judge bjj by what you see on ufc and there sh*tty "ground and pound" ... barely bjj.

oh and nothing will disorient someone more than if they come up to you, and you blast him right between the eyes with a punch...pick his ass up, and double leg takedown his ass with fury. you can pretty much be declared the winner at that point. he will be having trouble focusing, bleeding from the nose (maybe broken) wind totally knowcked out of him, head will hurt (maybe a concussion from slamming it against the ground), and his ribs might be fractured if you dropped him with your shoulder in his chest...

You could also try Haganah. It's based on Krav Maga, but also incorporates other arts such as Muay Thai/BJJ/etc.
