The worst ive seen so far is my brother was dating a beutiful girl this summer who was killed in a truck accident. The worst part was she was in the process of calling him on the phone when she was t boned by a delivery truck. He was getting a nap after morning weights and conditioning and she left him a couple messages saying she was gonna keep calling until he woke up.I think football season is the only thing thats helped him really get through it. (hes a senior in high school.)

man... all these stories made me sad. sometimes i feel like i am immortal and i a meant to be here on this planet... that i have a purpose... and then to think that i could just die at any second is crazy. when you see somebody die you realize that we ARE animals and that's it. i guess that means we should just enjoy life while we can. so much energy is wasted on hatred and violence - it's just so unnecessary and i don't understand why everybody can't grasp that concept. you'd think that we would have evolved as a species over thousands of years to overcome or petty differences and all work together for the greater good and for everyone to be happy - but no it's not like that unfortunately

50% of falls from 20' or more are fatal. If she wacked her head on an iron fence, dude, she's probably passed.

basically i was on the street about 20 feet away when she fell. i ran up to her and saw the expression on her face. it took me a second or two to realise how serious this sh_t was. by that time her friends had gotten to her and were trying to revive her.
watching it all damn near made me cry. after about a minute of overwhelming grief i decided i should just go cause someone had obviously called the paramedics, and there was nothing i could do to help her

Go to her house, and see if she's ok. We're all curious now.

I was at a party at an apartment complex one night drinking with some buddies on there second floor balcony. we were yelling and laughing and having a good time until across the courtyard a guy on the third floor balcony fell or jumped or was pushed who knows. He fell so fast he looked like a streak. He hit the ground so hard that it echoed throught the courtyard which was probable like a acre and a half large. We all went silent in disbelief, amazingly this guy got up and walked off. I have never seen anything like it im my life. Drunks never seem to get hurt. Absolutely amazing when you think about how high that is and the impact on the ground would have been like 40 Mph. I think his saving grace was that it had rained the day before and maybe the ground was softer I dont know. I never saw anything in the paper about it.

i think it all depends on how u land... I was running from the cops back in high school and my friend and I had to climb up on top of a retirement home to get away. we ran across the roof and then jumped off onto the sidewalk on the other side. It had to be at least 20ft because the side we jumped off of was higher than the part we climbed up, and the part that we climbed up was as high as a reg. basketball hoop.
I think that jumping 20ft and landing with knees bent on your toes there is no injury (like in my situation) but if you hit head 1st it could be instant death

I've seen crap like that often in my line of work... after a while, you learn to "disconnect" your feelings and just rescue those people. I'll admit that when a fellow FF or kids are involved it's a bit harder, but it needs to be done.
Just a tidbit of advice... if you ever see another tragic event like that, call 911 before doing anything else... even if "someone else called". You would not believe how often everyone thinks everyone else called. And even if someone else called, if you have a cooler head than the previous caller, you may be able to provide important details which help us a LOT when we show up.
I'm glad to hear the girl is ok... everyone loves a happy ending.
