Rugby is so much fun to play.
I played for two years for a division 1 school.
end of my sophmore season I craked a rib and bruised two, the doc told me to stay away from RUGBY. I play club rugby now, its still fun just not with really advanced players.

Oh no, not another rugby fanatic wingeing (http://www.atgbcentral.com/WINGEING.html) about helmets and pads in the NFL. Put down your tea and biscuits...no, wait they're called cookies, damnit!! And what the hell is the difference between rugby league and rugby? Just funnin'.
No doubt those were hard hits and awesome to watch, but it's a different game. If those were NFL guys doing the same hits without pads, there'd be explosions, gore, body parts everywhere, and carnage untold. Remember, the average NFL linebacker hits with the same amount of force as a 50lb dumbbell hitting the concrete from a 2 story drop. That's average dudes...AVERAGE.

Yeah but these guys play in the NFL, and are probably faster than Rugby players....
I would like to see one of those guys try and throw a weak forearm to an NFL linebacker.....
Or try and touch this guy

That USC football pic is of fullback Brandon Hancock. He ain't in the NFL...yet, but he is one swole dude with outstanding hands. Too bad he don't touch the rock very often.

I agree i think the size difference would kill those rugby boys, but mad props to those guys, you need major balls to play that sport.

the thing is tho, that most NFL players love there pads...and if you were to take them off of them and let a professional team, say like the All Blacks go at them , I think they prolly wouldnt like it...and most rugby players are off the wall crazy!

The only thing a football helmet does is allow you to hit someone much MUCH harder.
I've played football rugby and even hockey. Football DEF hurts the most.
By the way in football you don't need the ball to get hit.

All the pads do is remove the last 1% of inhibition for laying down the wrath of God on someone. NFL'ers have already lost 99% of that inhibition by the time they make it to the pros. And Deluge is right, a lot of action takes place away from the ball and you don't even have to be on defense to lay someone out. Ever seen a crackback (WR blindsiding a pursuing LB or DB)?

Julius Peppers is by far the sickest, scaryist man out there. 6'6", 290lbs.
4.5 40 time...which is insane for that big, along with a 37.5 vertical.
Hes a monster...He would eat up rugby players and spit them out.
Heres more info...
http://archive.profootballweekly.com...ers_022202.asp
Heres a little something from it:::
Peppers took it upon himself to run with the wide receivers and defensive backs, where he would be held accountable for running eight 300-yard sprints in 55 seconds with 30 seconds rest between each sprint. Peppers didn’t miss a time, completing the workout regimen of skill-position players at 6-6, 290 pounds.

I'm not knocking rugby. I respect those guys for playing without pads. That said, football is a different sport. The angles of attack in football are largely head on, but sometimes lateral. The angles of attack in rugby are largely lateral, but sometimes head on.

id like to see those blokes you talk about running non stop for 45mins,only stoping for lineouts, then after 10min break do it all again.as for rugby league, they run constantly only stopping for scrums, and only 4 reserves no other team on bench.this is the main reason i dont think nfl players would cut it,sure maybe for 15min bursts, then you could only have maybe 2 on your team max.to get their indurance up they would have to drop alot of weight.
btw, steroid use is extremely rare in rugby league.
this wasnt meant to be bashing nfl players,i initiallly thought you would like to see big hits without pads.
The way I see it is you could take the All Pro team from the NFL, teach them Rugby for a year, and they could probably be pretty successful. Try and take the best players in Rugby and teach them football for a year, then put the up against the Chicago Bears defense.
they would run out of puff after 20mins of constant running/sprinting around.
why dont the players that dont make the big league play rugby league,or rugby if they would dominate so much

However, do they really run full out for 45 mins? I see a lot of guys kinda jogging and even walking up to the scrum. It looks like guys away from the ball are definitely moving around, but not constantly running. In this regard, it seems similar to soccer (sorry, I realize I should have said football, but I didn't want any confusion with US football). I'm amazed at their endurance, but I don't see everybody running non-stop. I believe those are called marathons.
Anyhow, I would like to close by commenting on your avatar - DAMN! Dude is swole and ripped to shreds!!

And Ive watched Rugby a couple times, it doesnt look as demanding endurance-wise as you say. I would compare it to soccer. The field is huge, and most of the time guys are trailing the play.

As for everyone asking why doesn't so and so travel half way across the world to play a sport he has probably only watched on TV... To be competing against players who have been playing the sport most of their lives you need to be committed to that sport to compete at a professional level. You can't just throw a natural athlete, who has been playing football their entire lives, onto the All Blacks and expect him to be at par with everyone else and likewise. It takes a few years to full understand all aspects of a sport, with stradegies, rules, etc to compete at a professional level like that.
With that being said those are some serious hits but they are by guys who look like they would be wide receivers in the NFL. I played football all through high school as a middle linebacker and just because you have pads on doesn't mean you don't hurt like hell for days, even weeks. There's a reason why games are a week apart. Some of the hits I laid on guys with pads on would have probably killed me without them.Last edited by PrairieDawg; 10-15-2006 at 03:16 PM.
