I am thinking about buying a half-carcass of a cow, about 250 - 300lbs of beef
I eat so much steak and it is so damn expensive in the city I began looking into wholesale alternatives. I could get a grass fed USDA half carcass of a cow for 2.00 - 2.80 per pound and a half carcass is about 275 lbs. Much cheaper than the city prices. I could store it in my parents chest freezer in their basement and fill my freezer from time to time when I visit.
It comes cut into sections then I would have to cut it into steaks, and I would vacuum seal the steaks with a sealer that I have.
Anyone else buy this much steak in bulk or ever think about it or am I nuts?

yea my gpa makes it into sausage and stew i love that shit but any thing else and ill pass, yea man i would definalty buy that cow man think off the money you will save and all the steak you will have at your disposal. what i notice when someone has an abundance of a product he will generous and give it to his family buddies girlfriends then doing exactly the same thing and spending the same amount of money, so my advice to be stingy with your meat dude

I sell beef, chicken, pork and seafood door-to-door. Our beef and chicken is great for bodybuilders.
We have excellent cuts. I can get 180 cuts for around 200 bucks.

You can get some of the cheapest deals on meats and fresh fish if you head into Flushing, Queens and go to a Asian/Chinese market.
Cheap produce too, atleast 50% cheaper than most standard supermarkets.

$2.00/lb is a lot to pay just for the beef. I just bought a whole steer that had a carcass weight of 695 lbs. It was 1.29/lb for the carcass and 0.71/lb for cut and wrap. Just realize that you will only get a few good cuts of beef. A couple of tri-tips, 10 or so rib-eyes, some brisket, sirloin, stew meat, and a sh!t load of hamburger. Generally the butcher will through a ton of trimmings in with the ground beef, leaving you with hamburger in the 20% fat range.

Grain fed has better marbling of the meat. Also all commercial beef is finished in a feed lot before market.

Lower in calories, grass-fed beef is also higher in vitamin E and *****-3 fatty acids, which are thought to help reduce the risk of cancer, lower the likelihood of high blood pressure, and make people less susceptible to depression. Further, meat from grass-fed cattle is rich in another beneficial fat called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which supposedly lowers the risk of cancer. The benefits of CLA are so widely acknowledged that some ranchers who don't grass-finish their cattle add CLA supplements to their animals' feed once they're taken to the feedlots."
