    Ipod Virus

    Quote Originally Posted by CNN
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- A number of video iPods are infected with a virus, Apple said on its support site Wednesday.

The RavMonE.exe virus, which affects only computers running Microsoft's (up $0.02 to $28.46, Charts) Windows operating system, is on less than one percent of video iPods shipped after Sept. 12. It is unknown exactly how many video iPods are affected.

"So far we have seen less than 25 reports concerning this problem," the company said on its support site. "The iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac OS X are not affected, and all Video iPods now shipping are virus free."

Apple has issued instructions on removing the virus - which can be done with free anti-virus software - available on its support web site. In addition to Microsoft programs, Symantec (Charts)'s Norton Anti-Virus and McAfee (Charts) anti-virus can be used, according to the site.

The iPods were infected with the virus at one of Apple's contract manufacturers.

The virus does not affect Mac customers.

"As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it," Apple said on its support site.

Representatives for Apple were not immediately available for further comment.

I like how Apple blames Microsoft for not being ready for the virus.

you using the beta? I think it's great when you get rid of all the shadowing and all that other end user bs. Considering xp is just an os written on top of 2000 code... i think it's bout time they came out with a new from scratch os

No, Apple blamed Microsoft for having such a shitty OS with so many vulnerabilities. Notice the virus does not effect Mac OS X.

It checks if the OS is pirated and it'll limit access to the internet or limit other OS functions until you purchase a proper license.

use the update software to wipe it and reload the firmware, then resync.

I've had older ones weird out and that fixed it. Wipe, reset to factory default, reload firmware, resync.

That shutting down the internet thing has something to do with vista calling up new web addressess...something about when it connects to the net, it trys connecting to two different addressess, which will eventually overload the net with connections or something along those lines...I called total BS on it, but I've heard it from a couple of the nerds that I go to when I have computer/xbox problems.
