I don't consider anything I do online to be flirting. I don't meet chicks online anyway, but if I did, I wouldn't consider it to be flirting unless they were actually in my presence. If the girl was fat or ugly or both, then flirting is most definitely out of the question. Again, all hypothetical here, but I would never agree to meet a chick unless I saw a picture first. Even then I would be skeptical.

I had a co-worker once who tried to hit on every woman he met, esp waitresses but he never seemed to make out, at least when I was with him. He always managed to stick his foot in his mouth and sometimes it got to be very embarassing. One time we went into this restaurant and an older lady was working the counter and he blurts out. "where are all the young, good looking waitresses"? I wanted to hide under my seat. Another time he told the cashier, "I'll bet you were really hot when you were younger". I think that behind a screen you are more apt to do just about anything, especially in comparison to in person. Honestly, I think Im a nice guy so I'd talk to flirt with just about any girl, to an extent

. But of coarse the intimidation factor is a lot less online.

I have flirted and met a few people from the net. I have had a girl travel from England to Dubai for our first meet! I have had another girl fly from Ghana to Dubai also for our first meet! Both these trips were over 3000 miles and around 7 hours on the plane for the girls. They were both as nice as I thought they would be .... in fact the girl on my avatar is one of them and we are still in contact .... even as I type this!

I try not to do fat ugly girls whether on the net or in real life!

The majority of flirting (not online) happens with 7's and 8's. 9 and 10's dont get it as much or get it more indirectly because most men assume they are being approached by everyone and think the 7's and 8's are easier (because they assumer they are not being approached). They also think with the hotter girl there is the more of a chance she will initiate chat if they're interested in the guy. Again this fails because a lot of thier image is to compensate for a lack of social skills to begin. Its more prevalent with 10's than 9's though. Because 10's are given so much value for thier appearance they have little incentive to seek personal value elsewhere (like learning how to have engaging conversation with people)

And about the blind flirting, they did a study on this where the guys were told the women they were speaking to were ugly and the others were attractive. The guys speaking with the ugs spoke much more monotone and laughed a lot more at the attractive womans nonjokes. Overall MUCH more flirting happened with the women who they "thought" were attractive.

Last girl I was talking to on myspace took about a whole 5 mins to move from the comp to the phone. ONe thing I do now is exchange pics with them in the first minute (pics other than myspace) Its amazing how much tension can be created between 2 people when they're both attractive but dont really know shit about each other. I call it "idealized sexual novelty affect" : ) But i still prefer real life more than anything.

and some people will flirt with EVERYONE. They are the histrionics of this world.

That "comfort" you feel is actually a lack of "sexual tension".

Our bodies were built with that innate feeling so we would feel a need to release that "tension" when we were presented with good genes. Its part of the reason why the human species is the superior organism and is always evolving. (all naturalists feel free to have an arguement with yourself at this point)

So thats completely cool, but I would just suggest you step out your comfort zone and although you may never be completely comfortable with a hotty you can at least be *more* comfortable and not neglect the humans species biological obligation to evolve

desperate? i know about 1000 and 1 nondesperate people who use online dating because they are sick of desperate people in the real world.
you also increase your likelyhood of meeting someone compatable a lot more than in real world.

It is much less confrontational to "talk" to someone online than in person and therefore much easier for myself personally but, pretty lame as well. I am not necessarily "more likely" to flirt with a ugly chick online but regardless if it is online or in person, it is generally easier for me to converse with a women the less attracted I am to her. I am usually very introverted.
