Question How can I start a website?? Is it easy?

I took a javascript class a while back so I have real basic programming skills but Im just curious how someone starts a website. I wont be selling anything, I want to promote a specific type of self-help group in my area kinda like toastmasters
    http://www.toastmasters.org/
but a litte less formal and catered to a different group of people (less professional and less established in thier careers, primarily a younger group)
Ive been wanting to do this for a while I just dont know how so Id appreciate some help. I figure this would be a great way to get started. Assume Im braindead though because I know I tried setting a site up through comcast (my ISP) and I played around with it for a few hours than gave up. So it needs to be retard friendly lol. Thanks!!!!!

Free is best, but if its only a few bucks a month its no big deal.

You will first need a domain name, then web hosting and some basic html skills or a program that does it for you like MS FrontPage. You may also need an ftp program to upload files.

Most web hosting providers now, make it easier to build websites by allowing you to create the pages right online.

Check out godaddy.com for everything you need.

godaddy is great. prob the cheapest domain hosting on the internet right now

theres a lot of great hosting places out there as well. im assuming if u took javascipt class u shoudl no a lil about hosting. dont get buy the first hosting company u see, theres a lot of great hosting out there. for a llot of different types of needs.

make sure u pick something with a good amount of bandwith. bandwith is key to keeping yoursite up and running well and fast.

and dont go for a windows based server, try and find somthing that supports everything like PHP, PERL... mysql...

if u need any help i build websites proffesionaly. PM me for any advice
