Acetaminophen 500mg recall (Metal Fragments)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Perrigo Co, maker of generic acetaminophen is recalling some 11 million bottles of store-brand acetaminophen after discovering some were contaminated with metal fragments.
To put things in perspective though only 200 caps of 70 million tested by running through a metal detector showed metal. Not something to really panic over. Most tablets that test positive had mere "microdots" but on rare occasion they found wire in the tablets 1/3 of an inch long.
By the way you would not have bought anything with a Perrigo lable. They put lables on it matching store names. Perrigo is the world's largest manufacturer of store-brand nonprescription drugs so there's a good chance that if you have a generic acetaminophen, it came from them. Wal-Mart, BJ's, Kroger and CVS are among the big chains that sold it.
By locating the batch number on the bottle and comparing it the recall list at http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls...batchlist.html you can determine if you have a recalled bottle.
This doesn't seem to be a serious risk but I'd throw out the bottle if I had one.
