any one in college familiar with this grading scheme?

alright, our grades are posted online

right now, in a class, i have 430 points out of 600 total. I have not taken the final exam yet, the final is part of that 600, but stands as a zero right now for my 430 points. so 430 + (x grade on final exam) out of 600. i take final tomarrow

when i divide 430 out of 600, its comes out to a real low 70 percent. but my weighted average, which is 430 out of 600, which they calculated says 60 percent. wtf, do you guys think thats a mistake, or are you guys familiar with them throwing a twist when adding points up. i am stressing out over it hardcore, i emailed my prof like 2 days ago but he is being a lazy dick about it and not responding?

my other 2 classes, a point is a point, and the sum divided by the total straight up is your grade. either they messed up the calculation, or their is some kind of twist, what do you guys think?

thats the thing man......their calculation of 430/600 according to them equals ****60%****

final is worth 100 points, that 100 points is part of the 600....so 600 grand total, and whatever i get on exam added to 430 out of 600

something is just screwy......

this is how bad my class is doing overall

my first exam was out of 140 points. so this is what they did for that one. they just totally knocked off 20 points. so the amount i got right was now out of 120 instead of 140. on top of this, the curve raised my grade 14 percent on top of them knocking of the 20 points. so now, the test is showing up as worth 100 points on the chart for our grades. its just so messed up

my college , does grades based on percentages of letter grades. i'm not exacly sure what it is but i'll use this example. let's say there's 100 people in the class.

top 15 people = A
next 15 =B
next 15 = c
next 15 = d
lowest 40 = F

so if you have a 90%, but 15 people above you have higher than that you're still getting a B. i hope that makes sense. i don't know if that's what your college is going over, but that's essentially how all my classes are.

ya thats a bell curve. its cant be the bell for us, the average right now is 380 points compared to my 430

well, i am going to go to sleep for three hours. i was kind of depending on a point being a point, that way, i can get a 51 percent and still get a b in this class. i put all my eggs in 2 baskets, and it did pay off for my other classes, ones that are more relevant to my major, but this is still a 5 hour, and i am pretty screwed for it

i asked my prof this morning. all he did was talk in circles and say somthing like those points are irrelevent because the grades need to be weighted properly first

that grading system is retarded.

My school is based on a four point system, 4.0 being the best.

Sounds like some sort of messed up curve grading. I hate curves...unless I'm setting them!
