Can't Sleep and I have stomach sickness!!

Ok so last night I go to lay down and I get this sudden sickness in my stomach. I tried to just sleep and hope it would go away but it did'nt work. Me and my girlfriend tried going to walmart and walking around. It helped for a while but as soon as I got back home I started getting that sick feeling again. I'm not sure if its stress or what. I'm 21 years old working full time and going to school part time. I am about to end my 15 week prop/ winny cycle.
All last night I did'nt sleep and today have had that sick feeling in my stomach. We went on a long walk around the campus and by the end of it I felt almost completely better but again as soon as I got home I started feeling sick again. We also had sex and that helped but once again I sank into my stomach.
What could be going on? Anyone?

I should also note that I had a anxiety attack about 4 weeks ago and had to go see a doctor. She put me on some meds and after I was done with them did'nt have any problems.
Has anyone had these symptoms? Any help would be great.

Yah man, that sounds like general anxiety... if it seems like everytime you lay down to bed it happens, that is called agoraphobia.. meaning the illogical relationship in your mind about the place anxiety has happened before. You lay down in bed and have to jerk upwards because your stomach feels uneasy... so everytime you lay in bed afterwards, you remember that, and the anxiety levels rise. To beat it is hard, because you can't "try" to go to sleep, you have to be tired enough to drift off, rather than lay in bed and let your mind race around about what might happen with your stomach.

I've had extensive issues with that in the past, but I have them under control these days.

If you need some sleep, try taking a benadryl or two (same ingredients as OTC sleeping pills) and wash it down with some pepto bismol. It worked for me. The benadryl will make you drowsy, as well as calm down your beta-2 (?) receptors, which are the receptors dealing with the release of norepinephrine (adrenaline)... the underlying cause of sudden anxiety, or anxiety attacks. The pepto bismol will simply sooth the stomach and prevent any acid reflux that may trigger these anxious feelings again. I can go on if you like...

Wow that makes me feel really good that I'm not alone on this. I think I may have some benadryl. I will take one tonight and see how that goes. I figured that maybe that rememberance of when I had the anxiety attack was causing this.

yeah, i've been there and it does feel like the most horrible thing in the world huh?

I would suggest taking 2 or 3 benadryl your first time, I occasionally took 3 when times were rough... I researched it extensively, it's not that bad of a substance at all.

Also, what worked for me was to fall asleep on my couch rather than in bed, it was way easier to not think about the anxiety.

These techniques were only for a couple of nights mind you, until the general anxiety in the air decreased... until a time where i could think about the anxiety without actually getting anxious...

yeah, i would just pop a few benadryl and watch tv until i drifted off on the couch... not an ideal permanent situation, but it works when its important.

Do you know what I can do to keep it away permanently?

I have decided to give steroids up after this cycle and hopefully that will help. I also quit drinking.

yeah there is no permanent cure, but I have been symptom free for like 3 years.

When I had acute issues with it, I went on Celexa, a SSRI medication for about 12 weeks, then quit it, and that worked. I think I only had to do that twice.

it is triggered by stress and bad habits such as drinking, smoking, not eating, hypoglycemia... basically sometimes your world will come crashing down...

to keep it away for me, i exercise regularly, am conscious of my blood sugar levels (don't want them too low) as well as stay away from marijuana and drinking except for a few occasions. It also helps to get your life in order in terms of school and work. Don't have a job you hate / plan your major extensively. Basically happiness keeps it away in the long run for me. Being in control, living a life of meaning, and loving those around you unconditionally.

when i say there is no permanent cure, what i mean is that anyone and everyone is vulnerable to anxiety if enough stress is built up... it is very very rare that someone actually has an anxiety disorder. I've known dozens of people who have had issues with the attacks, it seems to be a normal part of life to have at least one these days, but you're ahead of the pack in my book if you have experienced it, and can learn to avoid it.

Good post mouse, I have experienced this too. First you need to follow mouse's advice to get a good night sleep, that will relieve alot of your stress right off the bat. Staying away from alcohol until you get it under control is important. Also try to remove major stressors as much as possible, I know that can be hard but control what you can. Eliminating the gear for a while will help because that can be stressing you. Mainly , you gotta find a way to relax, I know it's hard because you can't relax if you can't sleep, that's why you have to take some drugs to get those first couple of nights of rest. Good luck man, I hope you get staightened out because it does suck, but your not the first to go through it and you'll get better.

I used to have problems with anxiety when I was 15. It slowly built up over the years and I got to the point where everything gave me anxiety, friends, girls, everything. I would get that same sick feeling in my stomach, and it got to the point where I would vomit. When the vomiting started, thats when I went to the doctor. She put my on Paxil after doing some tests to determine it wasn't an ulcer giving me an upset stomach or any other disorder. I was diagnosed with a General Anxiety Disorder, and the Paxil helped me greatly. I'm still on it to this day.

Is there any family history of anxiety/depression? If there is, it could be genetic, as it is in my case.

The tips posted by mouse and yesevil are both very good. There is nothing better to stop anxiety than a good night's sleep. And like yesevil said, avoid alcohol. A depressent is NOT going to help with your anxiety! It will only make things worse. Also find out what triggers panic attacks in you and avoid unnessecary stressful situations. Also what helps to is to do some cardio. There's nothing like endorphins to help you feel better!
