I've done more than just pop in...I spent from 0-14 here in Hereford, 14-19 in the US and Australia...and out of the lot here in the UK I'm worse off.
cost of living is higher, tax is ridiculous....I pay tax on my earnings, I pay massive tax on fuel, I pay 17.5% sales tax on fckin everything, I pay a ridiculous amount of council tax, housing is overpriced (MASSIVELY), my town is full of yobs, criminals and CCTV cameras, every other day they bring in laws to criminalize new stuff, they're demanding we al have identity cards, biometric passports, fingerprints when we're pulled over (coming soon) all kinds of big brother shit...
I lived in CT for 5 years and never even locked my front door...we had to get a new lock when we moved cuz we didnt even know where the key was, never had a single crime, since moving back to the UK my mums been mugged and I've had my car stolen....this country is rapidly going down the tubes, I can't wait to leave

I'm pretty sure we have the highest tax burden in the world, thats the major thing I hate.
this isnt what i earn, but as an example ...
Say I earn 50K, Ill pay around 15-17 in income tax, plus National insurance, I pay nearly 2k a year in council tax, I pay something like 50p tax on every liter of fuel (I spend 50 a week on fuel...so call that 20 quid a week fuel tax) 160 a year in car tax...i pay 17.5% on everything i buy except food.....I must be paying 25k a year in tax minimum.....thats 50% tax....its insane, and what do we get? no police service to speak of, cameras everywhere, a health service thats more likely to kill you than cure you, a government that ignores our wishes and invades other countries.....this country is s-h-i-t....
we didn't used to be, and we could still save it (by closing the door on immigration for a start) ... but I don't think it's gonna be saved and I'm jumping ship...100 years time we're gonna be an islamic republic the way we're going anyway.
