    Help!!!!! My computer broke =[

Im on my laptop now but my desktop broke.
I think its malware related, I was d/loading a VSTi and when I installed it the message said "please restart your computer".

So I went to restart and when I turned it back on it keeps getting stuck at the first window and the little loading bar thingy stops about a quarter the way through and freezes.

After 5 attempts to restart I got a message that said your computer has failed to boot at usb 1, please contact dell.com. I was like M/FKR!!!!!! I NEED THIS COMP!!!!!!!! I have all my music software and studio programs on it. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong??

You running Windows ? If so sounds like its corrupted. Your data files will still be in tact but if you have to reinstall Windows you will lose all your apps and they will have to be reinstalled. Do you do backups ?

There is no doubt about that. Have you tried booting in Safe Mode ?

OMFG Im an idiot. My brothers a computer technician and came over today. He looks at the computer for about 5 seconds. Unplugs my keyboard, presses power, and it works fine. Hes like if you ever waste my time like this again Im gonna start charging you. I was cracking up.

In my first post i said "my computer failed to boot at usb 1" which is exactly where my keyboard was plugged in. I had d/loaded some malware VST's right before it happened so I was so convinced thats what happened. But fact is I haven't turned my computer off in about 6 months, (something like that) I just let it hibernate. I've only had my keyboard for about 5 so it all makes sense.

I still cant understand why the hell a comp cant boot when something like that is plugged but at least now Ill know for the future. Thanks anyway Kale!!!! I appreciate it.

    1. Try booting with last known good configuration
    2. Run chkdsk
    3. Try repairing the OS with the CD and the repair console
    4. Try booting into Safe Mode

I have never heard of Windows trying to boot from a USB port before, that is seriously weird.

I dont know shit about computers or exactly why that would or wouldnt be weird. But what I do know is I can have other shit plugged in via usb and the computer will start fine. But something about my midi keyboard (even with it installed and recognized by my computer) when the computer is starting and senses its plugged in and freezes, it wont boot, and gives that message. I just didnt realize it meant "unplug your f**king keyboard asshole" lol.

It was a keyboard error. If windows does not detect a keyboard plugged into the computer, it will not boot.

Take this as a sign though. Time to start backing up some into. Even something as simple as setting "system restore" dates up.

There have been afew times where system restores have saved my butt. Aswell, backing up music and programs onto a cd/dvd/disk is a good idea. I back up games incase something happens, or if an update corrupts the program.

Good point I went a bought a 300 gig external hardrive cost me about 200 bucks and now I backup everything using windows backup. If it crashes you can even restore all the system stuff so you wont lose the applications either. I actually have a 1000 gig of external hardrive space. Thats a lot of PORN !!!!!
