Cleaning work laptop
Any tips on cleaning off my work laptop? Changing jobs soon. . . .

format, reinstall, then format, install fedora, then format
or better yet.. steal the hard drive, and install a new one from a different computer... or just a new drive..The answer to your every question

Can't format and reinstall. All the software is pushed from a network - so I don't have any disks.

formating is good enough...yes the data is never really gone but do you really think they give a sh*t bout 1 employee's data enough to try to recreate the formated data? Seriously... not.... So i'd just format and leave it blank
let them put a new image on it (which i'm sure they have an image file for already).
if you are really paranoid... just low level format the f*cker and let them replace the drive

It does'nt matter how many times you format, there are ways to retreive data. I have heard of the NSA having the ability to retreive data off a HDD that had sat in salt water for an extended period of time but like Zimmy said, they are not gonna go through the trouble of retreiving your old data.
