i tunes & toshiba laptop dont mix

i purchased an i pod nano for my g/f for xmas and she asked me to load songs onto it and charge it up for her, so i did.
you have to download a program (i tunes) to put songs into the ipod so i did this and loaded all her music onto it, computer was running a little slow after this but i just thought it was due to i tunes program taking up a little more disc space.
next day my laptop would barely let me open any folders and wouldnt load any internet pages at all, all it would say was "program not responding"
this had really started to piss me off!!! i ran a virus scan and registry mechanic and still everything was basically locked up!!
i went into my windows settings and did a system restore to a date last week before i downloaded i tunes and after everything restarted and there was no more i tunes program all was normal again.... (except for my CD reading issues which i will create another thread for)

this just means that when she wants more music on that thing i'm going to have to re-download i tunes!!!

has anyone else encountered any problems with i pods/i tunes and their computers?

i would like to know if there is a way around this problem

    cheers

by the way my laptop is:

    Toshiba satellite
    1 G/B ram
    2 GHz processor
    60 G/B hard drive
    windows xp

    thats about all i know
